Authorities are waiting before placing the Western Australian town of Exmouth on high alert as Cyclone Nicholas approachs the WA coast. AAP is reporting the cyclone was estimated to be 130 kms north-north-west of the town early this morning though had since been downgraded.

Towns in Western Australia are continuing to brace themselves as Tropical Cyclone Nicholas continues to move in a south-south westerly direction.

The cyclone is expected to pass within 100 kms of Exmouth later year, delivering winds of up to 150 kms/hr as it moves towards the north-west coast of Western Australia.

At 3am AWDT Tropical Cyclone Nicholas was estimated to be 130 kilometres north-north-west of Exmouth and 250 kilometres north of Coral Bay and moving south-south-west at 11 kilometres per hour.

Exmouth emergency services manager Russell Levein told the ABC, "As it gets closer to the coast we've just got to look at about six o'clock this morning and just evaluate it, see how close it's going to get to us and determine whether we go to red alert or not," he said.

Hello there.

Just putting in the latest update via the ABC.

Early indications are the residents of Exmouth will miss the most destructive part of the cyclone though are still expecting some wild weather with winds up to 150 km/hr. However reports say Cyclone Nicholas's increasing "erratic" behaviour still has emergency services on alert for another change in direction or upgrade in category.
