The Huamantlada is similar to Spain's Pamplonada where several bulls are released into the street an amateurs pretend to be "toreros" bullfighters. To reduce the number of wounded wooden fences are placed to protect people watching on sidewalks, but this time the bull got out of these boundaries and some people actually fell in from those fences. I know many like this kind of adrenaline but what about the  families of those who are wounded, maybe this should be forbidden. Huamantla has other traditions like "La noche que nadie duerme" The night nobody sleeps decorating the streets with colored sawdust.

patgarcia, I like this story.

This seems like a pretty frightening experience for all concerned - humans and bulls.

patgarcia, I like this story. It's good stuff.

In the name of traditions and culture we do some times do rather creasy things and may want to change our traditions for new once that may be better. ad just as traditional.

THEN again, money is involved and big tourist dollars or Pesos.

Tragic. You'd think people would learn from year to year and develop some sort of padded pants. Thanks for the story.
