I highlight this story not because it's unique but exactly the opposite. The fashion for garden ponds will see once again this year many more such headlines. Here it's a neighbour's pond but often very young children drown in their family garden pond. Unless you have extra special security in place it's wise to fill in or cover up the garden pond whilst your children are very small. Sadly people tend to be safer with pools rather than the smaller ornamental ponds which are often only a few inches deep lulling us in to a false sense of security. I hope that we see no more such tragedies this year but as summer kicks in and kids get out in the garden I fear the worst.
A boy of three died after falling into a neighbour's garden pond during a family get-together.
He had been reported missing from the home of relatives, which backs on to the house with the pond. Police launched a search and made the tragic discovery an hour later. Witnesses said policewomen wept as the body was recovered.
Desperate attempts were made to resuscitate the boy, who has not been named, but he died later in hospital.

LotusFlower, I like this story. It's good stuff. Very sad. You make a good point about garden ponds though.
