A train crash today in Cairo, Egypt has killed 25 people and injured 55 when two trains collided in the Giza district southwest of Cairo.

A security services official said: "The two trains collided at Al-Ayyat, in Giza. There are deaths and injuries."

"The trains were travelling on the same track. One ran into the other as they headed towards Upper Egypt," the official said.

Fatal train crashes are not rare in Egypt as in July 2008 20 people were killed when a train collided with a bus near Marsa Martuh in northwest Egypt and in August 2006 58 people were killed and 144 were injured when two trains collided on the same track.
The worst incident occurred in 2002 when 361 people were killed after a train caught on fire.

Sad news.

It seems they should know which track each train is on.
