Travis Pastrana broke the world record for the longest ever rally car jump, jumping 274 feet over open water.

In a hop that unofficially measured 274 feet, Pastrana travelled from Long Beach, Calif.'s Pine Street Pier onto a barge anchored in harbor, the Associated Press reports.

This beats the previous record by 103 feet.

Several thousand people turned out to watch Travis Pastrana attempt the jump, which happened a little after midnight. When he landed the Subaru on the barge he skidded and slammed in the wall but he was unhurt as he jumped out of the car, ran to the end of the barge and did a backflip in to the water he had just jumped.

Many people spent their New Year's Eve holding their breath watching Travis and it was all worth it.
