Comments from Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).
The forecast path shown above is the Bureau's best estimate of the cyclone's
future movement and intensity. There is always some uncertainty associated
with tropical cyclone forecasting and the grey zone indicates the range of
likely tracks.
Due to the uncertainty in the future movement, the indicated winds will
almost certainly extend to regions outside the rings on this map. The
extent of the warning & watch zones reflects this.
Remarks:
Tropical Cyclone Nicholas continues to move in a south
southwesterly direction. DESTRUCTIVE winds with gusts to 150 kilometres
per hour are currently being experienced at North West Cape, and may
extend southwards this morning. Gales with gusts to 110 kilometres per
hour are affecting coastal areas east to Mardie, and may extend
southwards to Coral Bay later this morning, then further down the coast
to Cape Cuvier tonight. Gales may affect coastal areas between Cape
Cuvier and Overlander Roadhouse on Wednesday.
Tides between
Onslow and Exmouth are likely to rise above the normal high tide mark
today, with very rough seas and possible flooding of low lying areas
especially if the cyclone passes close to Exmouth.
FESA-State Emergency Service advises of the following community alerts:
YELLOW
ALERT: People in or near coastal Pilbara communities between Mardie and
Coral Bay, including Mardie, Onslow, Exmouth and Coral Bay should be
taking action in preparation for the possibility of a cyclone impact.
