The first named storm of the season -- tropical storm Ana is weakening to a tropical depression as it moves across the Caribbean. Tropical storm Ana was moving toward the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles yesterday. The National Hurricane Center is predicting Ana could dissipate today.

Ana was “poorly organized” and dumping rain over Puerto Rico, where a tropical storm watch was in effect, the NHC said. The system will probably move over Hispaniola today and degenerate into a tropical wave as it crosses the island, where 6 inches (15 centimeters) of rain may fall in the mountains, according to a hurricane center bulletin.
Ana has maximum sustained winds near 35 mph with occasional higher gusts. It is not expected to strengthen over the next few days and could degrade to a tropical wave later Monday.
