The True Character of Senate Republicans

The Senate Republicans have used a filibuster to block President Obama's veteran jobs bill.

This shows the true character of Senate Republicans.

In recent campaigns, both Democrats and Republicans have sung praises to veterans. But only the Democrats attempted to do anything to actually help them. This is especially glaring since the recent veterans were sent into harm's way by a Republican administration. And what the Senate Republicans have shown themselves to be is cold, lying users who have put American citizens into deadly and dangerous situations and then thrown them away.

There are people who are claiming that this is a very important election. They are right. There are people who are claiming that this election will decide the character of America. They are right as well. And a person who cares about America, and its character, will never allow this great country to be usurped by scoundrels who would send American citizens into deadly entanglements for trumped-up reasons and then have them come home with nowhere to go and nothing to do.

For a long time Republicans have claimed to be the party of character and values. The actions of Senate Republicans have shown that they have no business making any such claims. Most American people are better than Senate Republicans and possessive of much higher character. Which means that Senate Republicans have no business claiming that they are America, or that they speak for the character of America, or that the character of America would improve if Republicans were to lead.

A real patriot will never throw away his country's veterans. A real patriot will never block legislation designed to assist the veterans' re-entry into civilian employment. A real patriot will do everything that he can to ensure that the people who have risked their lives for the country can have a life when they come home from the front.

Much of the military votes Republican. The actions of Senate Republicans have shown how badly the military personnel in America has been mislead. First they send them to war for false reasons; then they block action to help them re-integrate into civilian world when they come home from war. I think that this should be a wake-up call for America's men and women in uniform that the people in whom they have placed their trust do not care about them and do not deserve to call themselves their leaders or to be worthy of their vote or to have their trust.

The current president has made a serious attempt to improve the lot of America's veterans. This attempt has been blocked by a group that has only one objective: To sabotage all of the President's agenda, including the parts of it that benefit the people who normally vote for them. Never in history of America have we seen a political force as unabashedly unpatriotic as today's congressional Republicans. And never in history of America have we seen a political force as blatantly malignant.

The day that this filibuster took place deserves to live in infamy. And it is infamy that belongs fully to the Senate Republicans who made this damnable choice. The military personnel deserve better representation than lying users. And America likewise deserves a better leadership - and better character - than that.

"The True Character of Senate Republicans" as spelled out by a radical far left-wing conservative hating liar.

"But only the Democrats attempted to do anything to actually help them. This is especially glaring since the recent veterans were sent into harm's way by a Republican administration." Riiiight! Except for the 2009-2010 33,000 troop surge for Afghanistan sent into harms way by Obama. And what the Senate Democrats have shown themselves to be is cold, lying users who have put American citizens into deadly and dangerous situations and then thrown them away.

P.s. Senate Republicans are a minority. They can't do anything to influence government unless the Democrat majority agrees. learn how the US government works before giving way to your emotional hyperbolic, fact twisted, lying.

JerryM

just saying, your name should be just ignorant. YOu do realize there is a system in place in the Senate called the filibuster which required 60 votes to defeat? It doesn't matter if they are in the minority if they can filibuster legislation and the Dems don't get 60 votes. Seriously, this is basic political science. How can you not know this? Look, I know you are an ignorant person. Fine, I get it. But learn something before you  make a complete fool out of yourself.

LOL. What a jackass. The filibuster brings up a vote. Both Democrats and Republicans can vote their conscience. Or they can vote their Party. If there were any centrist or Blue Dog Democrats left in the Party the idea of filibuster would be null and void.
For the Republican minority Senators they have no other means to even attempt to have a voice in the Democrat dominated Senate. The Democrat dominated Senate of Harry Reid has refused every piece of legislation to come up from the House and instead have tried to jam through their unconstitutional edicts. Just like they did in the House when they had a majority there as well in the Senate and rammed through Obamacare. What's Obamacare? Nancy Pelosi," We'll explain it to you after you vote to pass it". OMG! Republicans are going to filibuster. LOL.
The Democrat dominated Senate has refused to bring out a budget for three years and are about to, according to Harry Reid, make it four in a row before they enter their lame duck sessions between now and Jan 2013 post election. One complete Presidential term with no government budget. The primary duty of the Democrat majority Senate. FAIL!!!
So pleeeeeease don't give me this shit about the evil Republicans. The Democrat majority have set the behavior required if the Republican minority wants to voice their policy objections. You don't get to kick the dog and then whinge about being bit. The Democrat Senate majority are victims. LOL. Jack ass.

I'm neither a liar nor far left. Politically I am closest to Bill Clinton, who was a moderate to left leader.

Yes, the Senate Republicans can do things to influence government. There is a procedure called the filibuster in which 41 members of Senate can block action on a bill. This procedure keeps getting used by Senate Republicans to block good legislation, and it has been used since the time of the Clinton administration by Senate Republicans.

I do not hate conservatives as such, but I do hate the right-wing. They are the most malicious and most destructive political force in the country. You appear to hate the Left, so we are even.

LOL foolish child jumping on JerryM's nonsense as an excuse. Filibuster doesn't DO anything. A filibuster isn't a mechanism to enact policy. Filibuster is only a way to stop what policy you have been shut out from participating in developing. Democratic Senate majority under Obama has shut out Republican participation. If Harry Reid and Obama worked with Republicans the filibuster would not be exercised.

Yes. You are a liar. If that word is too strong then you are a propagandist. What you are not doing is telling the truth. Your version requires manipulation and massaging of the real events.

The right wing is not in power any where in the Federal government. The right-wing is not the power in the GOP. The right-wing is not responsible for Obama policy. Obama is in power and his policy decisions have had a very negative effect on our domestic economics and our foreign relations. Under Obama we have gone from being in the top five countries in the world with the highest economic freedom to number eighteen.

Print the truth not partisan spin and bullshit lies. We have enough MSM lying and spinning and telling half-truths covering for this administration. We understand the MSM as a corporate political shill but, it only make individuals look retarded when they buy into the spin and start proclaiming it as truth. And this article makes you look retarded. Don't blame me.

"Filibuster doesn't DO anything" - yes it does, it stops debate on a bill and prevents it from being voted on.

"What you are not doing is telling the truth." - yes I am.

"Print the truth not partisan spin and bullshit lies." - tell that to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.

You are being intentionally obtuse and playing a game of semantics. You repeating what I said doesn't give you a leg up. I explained the filibuster in terms that made it clear it doesn't accomplish anything except obstruct what policy is being run through while excluding participation from one half of the two party political system. Don't be an ass.

No, you are not telling the truth. Which is why you cling to the asinine distraction of filibuster instead of answering to the original issue.

What ever Limbaugh or Beck have to say one way or the other does not give you an excuse for the stupid bullshit you write. I don't listen to Beck or Limbaugh but, I have heard Rush before and I have to say, agree or not with his opinion, he has background and data backing it up.

You trying to be a Beck? So sad that you unthinkingly hyper defend the progressive statism. You should put some effort into writing something that doesn't make you look like a knee-jerk reactionary playing he said she said no I'm not yes you are. It's infantile.

"You are being intentionally obtuse and playing a game of semantics."

 Doing no such thing.

"You repeating what I said doesn't give you a leg up."

You repeating a pack of lies does not make them true.

"I explained the filibuster in terms that made it clear it doesn't accomplish anything except obstruct what policy is being run through while excluding participation from one half of the two party political system."

The filibuster allows a minority to thwart the will of the majority. You may as well say that the person who loses the Presidential election should be entitled to veto legislation.

"Don't be an ass."

Lead by example.

"No, you are not telling the truth."

Yes I am.

"Which is why you cling to the asinine distraction of filibuster instead of answering to the original issue."

You haven't addressed the original issue.

"What ever Limbaugh or Beck have to say one way or the other does not give you an excuse for the stupid bullshit you write."

If it's stupid bullshit, refute it. If you can't, shut up.

"You trying to be a Beck?"

Not at all. But I am willing to meet him at his level as much as I am willing to meet you at yours.

@just saying

Not to worry. It was clear what you meant when you said, "They can't do anything to influence government unless the Democrat majority agrees." Which is absolutely true. Anything the GOP would put forward would require substantial Democrat approval. Don't mind JerryM. JerryM unfortunately exposes his own ignorance while calling everyone else ignorant as he twists what is said to suit his attack.

ishambat

You know as well as everyone else knows that the filibuster has been, and continues to be, used constantly by Senate Republicans to block legislation. No, they cannot put forth legislation when they are minority; they can however block legislation that has a majority support. JerryM is not ignorant to point this out, he is honest to point this out. As for you, you have exposed yourself to be a conman. Not surprising given your political affiliations and your relativistic worldview.

I will answer this because it is my argument.

First, I have read a lot of comments by 30.06 and none of them were off point. So your use of con man is hyperbolic to ay the least. And JerryM is never honest and he was looking for a semantic argument he thought he could win instead of talking to my original issue, which like yourself, he couldn't debate on the facts.

You know as everyone knows that the only reason the filibuster is being used is because Harry Reid and the Democrat Senate majority have excluded the Senate Republicans from contributing as elected officials of this government.

You know as everyone knows that the only reason the filibuster is being used is because Harry Reid and the Democrat Senate majority have waylaid every piece of legislation to come up from the House.

You know as everyone knows that the only reason the filibuster is being used is because Obama has vetoed or ignored his own economic bipartisan commissions efforts to cut spending and draw down the national debt.

You know as everyone knows but, you are still trying your damnedest to lie to yourself and others. To what end I don't know but it stinks.

"First, I have read a lot of comments by 30.06 and none of them were off point. So your use of con man is hyperbolic to ay the least."

If someone is denying a fact, then he is a conman.

The fact is, the filibuster has been used for decades by Senate Republicans to stop legislation that the majority in Senate voted for. If someone claims to the contrary, then he is lying. As for 30-06, check my thread about Relativistic Republicans.

"And JerryM is never honest and he was looking for a semantic argument he thought he could win instead of talking to my original issue, which like yourself, he couldn't debate on the facts."

I am debating it entirely based on facts. And the fact is, the filibuster allows a minority of 41 in the Senate to stop a bill.

"You know as everyone knows that the only reason the filibuster is being used is because Harry Reid and the Democrat Senate majority have excluded the Senate Republicans from contributing as elected officials of this government."

Filibuster was used long before Harry Reid was the majority leader.

"You know as everyone knows that the only reason the filibuster is being used is because Harry Reid and the Democrat Senate majority have waylaid every piece of legislation to come up from the House."

No, filibuster was used before Harry Reid.

"You know as everyone knows that the only reason the filibuster is being used is because Obama has vetoed or ignored his own economic bipartisan commissions efforts to cut spending and draw down the national debt."

The only president to do anything about the national debt was Bill Clinton. And he was a Democrat.

"You know as everyone knows but, you are still trying your damnedest to lie to yourself and others."

I'm telling it like it is. Deal with it.

"thirty-aught-six"

Which "fact" did I deny ishambat? You mean your "facts" that you whine about Republicans are this and Republicans are that. Your "facts" which I deny by producing corroborated proof that Democrats behave exactly the same way in every circumstance. LOL.

If stupid hurt you'd be a human bruise.

0

"Which "fact" did I deny ishambat" - that filibuster allows the minority in the Senate to thwart the will of the majority.

I don't understand why this is being discussed at all. It's a fact; and the person who is in denial of fact is a conman.

You also continue to claim that global warming is a hoax. And that makes you a conman as well.

0
"thirty-aught-six"

@ ishambat. Now show me the sentence where I deny that a filibuster by a Party minority obstructs the will of a Party majority.

Now show me where I stated GW was a hoax.

The only con man here is you, and continues to be you. You've become the worst whinging, hateful, narrow-minded ideologue.

So I'm right. Thanks for proving my point. You you like the truth that the Democrat Senate majority is freezing out the Republicans. So you make excuses for them, and decry the use of the filibuster.

From Politico [decidedly a leftist political bent]

To a tremendous degree, Republicans have relied on filibuster threats over the last three years to stop Democratic legislation in its tracks — but they’ve replicated stall tactics used by Democrats when they were in the minority.

Indeed, Republicans complain about Democratic filibusters on President George W. Bush’s judicial nominees, something that McConnell himself has said led to the situation the Senate finds itself in today. And the filibuster has been increasingly used for decades by the Senate minority party to block everything from routine motions to landmark bills, worsening the partisan gridlock.

If they return to the minority, Democrats say they won’t arbitrarily filibuster legislation because of a pure political vendetta. But Don Stewart, McConnell’s spokesman, said the Democrats’ latest threats are nothing new, saying they launched “serial filibusters” when they were in the minority during the Bush years.

Hypocrite.

"So I'm right. Thanks for proving my point. You you like the truth that the Democrat Senate majority is freezing out the Republicans. So you make excuses for them, and decry the use of the filibuster."

Freezing out the other party is a bipartisan effort. When it was Reagan and Thatcher in power, it always was, "Is this person one of us?"

As for Republicans, all they do is stuff up legislation. Their only goal is to sabotage the Obama administration, and they keep standing in way of legislation whether or not it is good.

The filibuster should have never been allowed at all. Not for Republican use, not for the Democrat use. You might as well be giving the loser of the presidential election authority to veto legislation.

What the minority in the Senate are given with the filibuster as political instrument is a device to combat fascist dictatorial government like we saw with Obamacare. One half of the representative government, Republicans, had no voice in what was in Obama care. Not to mention Democrats. ["We'll explain Obamacare after you vote to pass it", Nancy Pelosi.] And especially not the 34 Democrats in the House.

When Democrats were asked if they could explain Obamacare to their constituents they replied, No. No one has explained it to us. We agreed to a health care bill that is over 2,000 pages and we don't know what it is or how it would work.

Obama had to use an Executive Order to get it passed in the House. And in the Senate, Obama just squeaked by getting the 60th vote to break the filibuster. ***ABCNews: On page 432 of the Reid bill, there is a section increasing federal Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster.” The section spends two pages defining which “states” would qualify, saying, among other things, that it would be states that “during the preceding 7 fiscal years” have been declared a “major disaster area.” I am told the section applies to exactly one state: Louisiana, the home of moderate Democrat Mary Landrieu, who has been playing hard to get on the health care bill.***

Americans got Obamacare but by no means was Obamacare something everyone, Democrat or Republican, unanimously wanted for Americans.

In the history of using the filibuster there is one unique instance of compromise. On May 23, 2005, a group of fourteen senators was dubbed the Gang of 14, consisting of seven Democrats and seven Republicans. The seven Democrats promised not to filibuster Bush's nominees except under "extraordinary circumstances," while the seven Republicans promised to oppose the nuclear option unless they thought a nominee was being filibustered that was not under "extraordinary circumstances."

"What the minority in the Senate are given with the filibuster as political instrument is a device to combat fascist dictatorial government like we saw with Obamacare."

Nothing fascist or dictatorial about it. Unlike Bush, Obama was legitimately elected, and unlike many in the Tea Party he is not advocating killing or imprisoning the opposition.

If Obama was fascist or dictatorial, then your ass would be in a labor camp. That instead you are free to spread your propaganda, using government-built Internet of all places, shows how far from reality you and people like you are.

"One half of the representative government, Republicans, had no voice in what was in Obama care."

And the Democrats had no voice in any number of policies that came from Reagan and Bush.

There is much more aggressive partisanship from Republicans than there is from the Democrats. As they say, Republicans go for the jugular while the Democrats go for the capillaries. I am one Democrat who is willing to meet Republicans at their level.

"When Democrats were asked if they could explain Obamacare to their constituents they replied, No. No one has explained it to us. We agreed to a health care bill that is over 2,000 pages and we don't know what it is or how it would work."

Whereas Bush took America into a needless war in Iraq on false pretexts.

Look in the mirror pal.

"Americans got Obamacare but by no means was Obamacare something everyone, Democrat or Republican, unanimously wanted for Americans."

Most political action is not something that everyone wants.

Did everyone want Reagan's policies? Did everyone want Bush's policies? No.

Stop being such a hypocrite.

Yep. Your post is more proof that it's o.k. for Democrats to behave poorly but bad for Republicans. You are the hypocrite pal. Your post is emotional drivel backed by empty accusations and excuses. Like so many others here on NP now it is just hate, hate, hate.

Your whole justification is a barefaced lie to cover your own complicity in the hypocrisy of he said she said no you are what am I. What makes you stupid is you think it has value. Worse, and if one could be more stupid than stupid, you think you can win at he said she said no I'm not you are. Pathetic.

BUT, the really hilarious part of your hypocrisy is your use of moral relativism to make Democrats out to be less Republican like after calling all Republicans... what was that? Relativistic Republicans. LMAO.

Everything you have said is a lie.

"Yep. Your post is more proof that it's o.k. for Democrats to behave poorly but bad for Republicans."

I am saying no such thing. I am confronting Republicans at their level of conmanship and aggression. It is time that somebody did such a thing.

"Your post is emotional drivel backed by empty accusations and excuses."

My post is based on political fact and reality. Whereas all that you and your type practice is deception and personal attack.

"Like so many others here on NP now it is just hate, hate, hate."

Republicans are the hateful party in America. I am tired of your attacks, and I am willing to be just as hateful to you as you are to Obama and others.

"Your whole justification is a barefaced lie to cover your own complicity in the hypocrisy of he said she said no you are what am I."

I am part of no such hypocrisy.

"BUT, the really hilarious part of your hypocrisy is your use of moral relativism to make Democrats out to be less Republican like after calling all Republicans... what was that? Relativistic Republicans. LMAO."

1. I am not calling all Republicans relativists, I am calling some Republicans relativists.
2. I do not use moral relativism, and I have done much more to fight political correctness than you have.
3. Your making up these false allegations is true to character of Republicans as deceivers. How outrageous is this that Republicans consider themselves the party of character and integrity when they are the world's biggest conmen.

Yes you are no I'm not am too no you are she said it first no he said it first I'm the bestest ever no I am liar liar pants on fire. LMAO What a child.

Don't put your hate trip on me. I have zero to do with your petty hateful nature. I'm not a Republican nor a Democrat and there is not a hairs difference between the two these days. You are simply a blind partisan with a mental problem of some kind who has to think of himself and his ideology as superior to everyone. Pathetic. I have simply pointed out your blatant hypocrisy. Too bad you are so enamored with your delusion of social victim you can't see it's you in the mirror you are pointing at while you play the blame game.

You have given yourself all the excuses to be a goof while declaring it is others who are the bad ones. You made me, they made me who I am. Wow. Too funny.

As my Irish friend says to idiots, "Good on ya. How clever of you to have reached the stratospheric heights of idiot. Job well done."
