NP Rank:
True Colors
Ever since our illustrious Governor bought himself the Governorship of Florida with a proposed agenda to match his ego, that being job creation, the state's economy has remained most stagnant at best. In job creation, well, let's just say there really hasn't been. After all this is the Governor who had the audacity to refuse federal funding for high speed rail. This funding was purposely ear-marked for middle-class wage job creation in the development of a trans state high speed rail system. This was the first indication of our Governors true colors.
This state, by the way, in developing a rail system that chris-crosses the state would have opened up more doors of economic opportunity. Now, all that is happening are gas prices continue to thwart economic growth, cities like Tampa and St. Pete are left with mounting traffic problems, unemployment rates still too high and wages for those still working continue to fall way short of inflation. So much for "Let's get to work" as our "Wizard" head of state reveled in during his quest to become our wonder of economic salvation this state has known. Pun intended.
The Tea Party activists openly endorsed this Governor and on the coattails of the Tea Party enthusiasts our new Senator emerged. The definitive line of being a conservative and a true American has been crossed by the Tea Party who are blinded by their own ambition, lack understanding economic concepts pertaining to today's social and economic demographics and a some what ruthless desire for non compromise.
For political expediency our Governor has now made a remarkable transformation in regards to his long time insistence regarding federal mandates particularly the Affordable Health Care Act of 2010. Instead of attacking the Presidents initiative as he as done so fervently in the past he now endorses it. True, the Affordable Health Care Act has had an impact on every citizen especially our seniors in this state and should have been supportive in the first place. But no it wasn't. The way our governor has treated anything the President has offered has been routinely dismissed just like the rail funding that went elsewhere. That old saying "A leopard can't change his spots" comes to mind. Camouflaged in sheep's clothing is another analogy that particularly comes across whenever our Governor speaks.
When it comes to education there again is another political posturizing move by our Governor. Gutting public services for budgetary concerns as we were expected to believe they were necessary when in reality all they did was set this states overall economy back. Are we supposed to dismiss what budget cuts did to the state when now our Governor has proposed salary increases for our public school teachers, those that are left. With school over crowding these salary increases only reflect a move for gaining favor with an increasing skeptictal public.
Instead of taking charge of immigration policy or making our state the state that leads the way for solar and wing energy technology we are left with increasing energy bills, outdated crumbling infrastructure, and a foreclosure rate that is rendering the state of Florida most ineffective in creating any economic growth at all. Many envision Florida as being the Sunshine state home to Disney World. In reality we are the state where we have 5 of the 10 worst and most dangerous roads in the country. Solar energy is still light years away from being affordable. The states business climate continues to underpay it's workers. These are just of a few facts of life living in Florida. Now, we have a Governor that continues to gloat on his remarkable accomplishments when in reality we have only stepped backward. True colors revealed, indeed.
