We had this last weekend when visiting family and is one of our special pick wines we're drinking slowly.
This terrific Merlot drinks like a big California Cab and has an appealing spicy, herbal bouquet scented with olives and a hint of mint. Intensely flavored, this Pride offers an amazingly nuanced layering that starts off with cinnamon, kiwi juice, and pears and finishes with surprising depth and fluidity with licorice, light oak, earthy spice. A truly rewarding and enjoyable high caliber Merlot. Will be great in 5 more years. Gets a 98 on the Hinchcliffe scale.
Obtained directly from the winery in California, pridemountain.com. Approximately $48 per bottle, this Merlot is on most top 100 wine lists and is a highly sought after investment grade wine. Available online for between $80 and $110 when you can find it.
Trivia: The gorgeous Pride Mountain winery is located on Spring Mountain. It's half in Napa County and half in Sonona County and the county line goes right up the middle of the aging cave where they keep the oak barrels. The wine's grapes are split also by the county line so this us why the mixed sourcing on the label, not because they buy grapes from lesser secondary parties.
