Tunisia Endorses Iran's Right to Nuclear Power
As the war-party of Obama, Netanyahu and Cameron has begun to plan attack on Iran, an Arab nation, Tunisia, threw its support for Iran's nuclear program and dismissed western threats and sanctions as violations of Tehran's right to have access to peaceful nuclear technology.
In an interview with {The Atlantic} magazine, published on March 2, Obama had issued a direct threat to Iran saying Iran and Israel both understand that "a military component" is among a mix of many options for dealing with Iran, along with sanctions and diplomacy.
Interim President of Tunisia, Moncef Marzouki, in an interview with the Al-Alam News Network, has said that his country is willing to expand relations with Iran in all areas especially in energy and tourism sectors.
President Marzouki said he is willing to travel to Iran if he is officially invited. He has also called for establishing a direct flight between Tehran and Tunis. Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi is scheduled to pay an official visit to Tunisia in April.
Meanwhile from Tehran, Tunisian Ambassador to Iran Mohammad al-Hasayeri has voiced his country's support for the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy program saying : "Tunisia's stance is clear. We, along with other countries of the world, support access to various technologies, particularly peaceful nuclear energy."
He expressed his optimism that the Iranian nuclear issue would be settled through diplomatic means and argued that sanctions and threats of war against Iran amount to the violation of Tehran's right.
What is of interest is that in late February, when attending the Syrian National Council-organized meeting at Tunis on the Syrian crisis, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Tunis where she had one-on-one meeting with President Marzouki.
