Turkish Girl Medine Memi Buried Alive For Talking To Boys

Reports have emerged that a teenage girl was buried alive in Turkey for talking to boys. 16-year-old Medine Memi was found dead in December, buried in a hole in her family's own garden. Memi was found dead with soil in both her stomach and lungs, and minor bruising on her body. Memi is believed to have been the victim of an honour killing, a practice that takes place in her hometown of Kahta in the province of Adiyaman, Turkey. Memi was buried alive because she spoke to boys, something that is punishable by death in the extremely conservative community she belonged to.
Two months after police found Medine's body buried in the garden of her family home, a team of doctors at a university in Malatya has completed the post-mortem examination.
According to a source who has seen their report, there was only minor bruising on her body, and no evidence of her being drugged.
Both Memi's father and grandfather have been arrested on suspicion but have not yet been charged. Her father was reportedly unhappy that Memi had male friends, while her grandfather went as far as beating her for having any relations with the opposite sex. Autopsy reports support the conclusion that Memi was both conscious and awake when she was buried alive. There was no evidence of poison, narcotics, or any other kind of drug in her body according to the autopsy report.
Memi was buried in a two-metre hole dug under a chicken pen on her family's property. She had tried to seek help from the police just mere days before she was buried alive. Memi went to the police to report the beatings from both her father and grandfather but was turned away and sent home. It is estimated that over 200 honour killings take place in Turkey every year.

Pretty sick, to think her own flesh and blood buried her alive! Pics. I've read that the young female suicide rate is rather high in the South East part of Turkey as well.
May she now know some freedom, that which she never had in her short life.

Stuff like this probably happens more often then we're aware of. From a westerner's view point, it's hard to understand a culture that would engage in such barbarous and inhuman treatment of another human being . . . .

Absolutely disgusting, archaic beliefs and extreme conservative ways only make people suffer. Chances are those two idiots will walk, or get some minimal punishment.
A police station that turns somebody away who needs help is even worse, they could have done something for her. They should be castrated.

It is not related with our religion You don't know anything about our religion.The victim girl was kurdish.Kurdish fathers are very strict about their daughters having male friends.Us Turks are sad about this but what can we do ??

This story makes me so upset. How cruel , and her own father and grandfather ??? Kurdish people from this part of Turkey , so primitive, living like 100 years back in time. Girls can't do anything alone, they are like prisoners.They must always have company with their brother or father goin' outdoor.Sanliurfa, same area, I have been there several times. One 15 years old boy whom I meet visiting a family, is now in prison. WHY ? He killed his sister because she new a boy. Another man 30 years,whom I know too well, wanted to kill his sister because she had one mobilphone ?? and also she must have a boyfriend, he said !It was up to him to kill her ..he had the right to do it ??? her brother ? The whole family was beating her. The worst is : I can't do anything, I dont even speak kurdish. No more Sanliurfa or eastern Turkey for me. I cant stand the way they treat girls and their primitive way of living. Let's hope that Medine's desteny will not be forgotten, ever, and it will open peoples eyes, so other girls lives will be spared. Hope her evil father and grandfather will rotten in hell.

I'm half turkish and this could happen in places other than the southeast. Turkish men want to marry virgins, but have sex with foreigners. It's an ancient sexist double-standard, and it's all over the world, not just muslim societies. There are christian nuts in America that will kill you for dating their women, but they prob stop at beating the women, not burying them alive. THat takes extra ignorance, but mistreatment of women is global.Of course, religion must be stopped everywhere. Religions are filthy violent ignorant fairy tales from the past.
