TV reporter witnesses 4-hour dying of a Marine
Journalists in the Philippines never run out of stories of conflict to cover. The island of Mindanao in the Southern Philippines, at most a peaceful and bountiful land, is home to a Muslim separatist movement struggling for independence from the Republic. Attached to this, a bloody internecine war that has become a subject of both media adventurism and their heraldic quest.
In the end, the truth in every story of each and every life involved in the decades of battles reveals a bitter pill...there is the paradox of lack and overabundance of humanness in humanity.
By his account Tuesday to the Philippine Daily Inquirer (parent company of INQUIRER.net), GMA 7 reporter Jiggy Manicad traveled with his crew to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) for a “simple coverage” of the first ever automated elections in Philippine history.
But the news team found itself trapped in heavy fighting between government troops and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels, and Manicad found himself witnessing the agony of the severely wounded Marine Cpl. Angelo Abeto, begging for a “medivac” as he lay bleeding for four long hours.

jayr_patron, Its horrible to watch someone die in battle. I do wish this fighting would stop, the Philippines is a beautiful safe place to live, I live in Negros Oriental. The problem with stories like this they are bad for tourism and that does not help the economy.

How insensitive to think about tourists, you want them in the middle of this kind of fight? It's not the story, it's the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels who are bad for tourism and the economy and everybody's health.

jayr_patron, good stuff. This is far more important than ego-centric rantings. And you used the tools and presented it all honestly. Thank you.

Let us not make news or videos of dying people who are caught in a very tight situation. If you were in their shoes, would you like it? Its your job- but let there be limitations.
