Two foreigners involved in a LTTE suicide plot to kill Sri Lanka President - report
Sun, Jun 28, 2009, 09:11 pm SL Time, ColomboPage, Sri Lanka.

June 28, Colombo: Two foreign nationals along with three drivers attached to international aid agencies along with two Sri Lankan politicians have reportedly been involved in a suicide plot to assassinate the Sri Lankan President, a Sri Lankan Sunday weekly revealed.

According to the Nation newspaper, the Police Intelligence have commenced investigations to arrest the two politicians said to be involved in the plot with the help of three drivers attached to international aid agencies.

The Western Province Intelligence Unit has alerted the Presidential security when the plot came to light. Following their investigations so far, Intelligence Unit have arrested an American and a Swedish attached to these organizations along with three high ranking Tiger members, the Nation reported.

The weekly said that investigations have uncovered plans for a suicide bomber to explode himself with the help of the politicians while the three drivers attached to UNOPS, UNHCR and Save the Children offices in Vavuniya have transported the explosives to be used for the attack.

Investigations have revealed that 40 kilos of potent C4 explosives have been brought to Colombo from Kilinochchi in the petrol tanks of the INGO vehicles. The bottoms of the petrol tanks have been made removable to conceal the explosives and to later retrieve them.

The UN said on June 20th that two of its local staff members, one from UNHCR and one from UNOPS, have been arrested but they were not aware of any charges or details of any accusations.

Sorry to disappoint  you, but you will see such developments in terrorist free Sri Lanka very often. Please try to make those comeback-to-reality bouts of diaspora tiger supports like you frequent.

The real answer to your accusation comes from Human Rights Watch, "Tigers Under the Bed".

Anybody and everybody is a Tiger supporter and Tiger sympathizer in Sri Lankan government's understanding, why so paranoid ?!! or just acting cynical to kill more Tamils ?!!

Rajapaksa and his advisers, staunch Sinhalese nationalists, appear to believe the western world, including the UN, have been plotting against them. Virtually anyone who had any contact with the LTTE, whether Sri Lankan or foreign, is now a suspected LTTE sympathiser. Sri Lanka appears headed for a McCarthyite period where the government believes – or cynically acts as though it believes – there is a Tamil Tiger under every bed.

This is something like the accusation made by LTTE terrorist supporters during the dying moments of the terrorist leadership , in the last legs of the SLA operations. India, China, Israel, US, Obama, Russia, US, UN and even a lot of Tamil leaders - virtually everyone who does not take up a gun and go to Sri Lanka to fight for the terrorists (instead of the tamil Diaspora ) was a culprit or "genocide supporters". What a farce!

That WAS paranoia. The perfect definition for the word.

The whole world knows that LTTE terrorists are the ones killed more tamils than anyone else.

IT seems that the rag-tag remnants of the spent terror militia have the urge for more killing of tamils.

I'm amused at suggestions by some that aid groups should somehow be immune from being subjected to the local law. If this was the case, the LTTE would certainly infiltrate them to carry out their terrorist activities with "aid" immunity. You would expect nothing less of a group known to have used pregnant women as suicide bombers. Considering how corrupt and devious the "aid" industry in Sri Lanka is, what we need is closer monitoring and more legal action.

I think the government should parade and prosecute these suspected foreigners in front of the international media as a warning against more LTTE sympathisers coming to Sri Lanka to help out their fallen friends. The message has already been sent out, and the recent US warning for aid workers and journalists is a positive development.

The next step should be more restrictions on foreign funding on NGOs primarily involved in not aid-related activities, but lobbying and poltical activism.
