Two passengers were injured today when a false fire was reported on a Delta Airlines flight 1016 going from Atlanta to Philadelphia taxiing for takeoff at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The flight was carrying 138 passengers and five crew.

The flight was getting ready for takeoff just after 3pm local time and the MD-80 aircraft was going down the runway and there were reports of flames coming out of the engine and fire trucks were called.

Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, told BNO News that two passengers sustained minor injuries during the evacuation. Bergen said a fire was indicated when the pilot started the number two engine and passengers then evacuated the aircraft via the chutes. "A later report said no fire was detected," she said.

The passengers are scheduled to be on another flight at 6:30pm. An investigation is underway.

I was on another Delta plane flying to Miami I saw the plane with the chutes and trucks coming out. It delayed our flight by 30 min (I am talking about take of) We left the gate more or less on time.  It's scary, and I read that there was another incident just 10 days ago at Atlanta when a plane landed on a takiway instead of the runway.

Correction to post. The line "I  was on another Delta plane flying to Miami I saw the plane with the chutes and trucks coming out," should read  "I  was on another Delta plane on the taxiway flying to Miam.  I saw the plane with the emergency chutes coming out of it and the emergency trucks by the plane,"
