Two MTBA trains crash in Government Centre Boston: forty injured

Two MBTA Green Line trains have crashed near Government Centre in Boston, and about forty people are reported to be injured.

Both trains were traveling out of the city, as one Green Line train crashed into the other.

The station has been evacuated. 

According to a Boston resident, over 1,000 people are being evacuated out of the station.

A similar crash happened almost one year ago when two Green Line trains crashed and about 10 people were injured.

A Green Line train heading west crashed into another train car tonight in the tunnel between Government Center and Park Street. About 10 people were injured in the crash.

None of those injuries is considered life-threatening, said MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.

Pesaturo said one of the trains hit the other “from behind” at about 7:18 tonight. Both trains were heading westbound.

Tonight's train crash in Boston, which injured 49 people, was caused by the operator who was text messaging, according to media reports.

Video at NECN.com.  Operator of second train most seriously injured, but in stable condition - most others (46) who went to Boston area hospitals, were able to walk away on their own.

It's come out today that the driver on the second train was texting while driving. 

Daniel Grabauskas, GM of Metro Boston Transit said "  "We have reinforced for a number of years that the use of cellphones or any other kinds of electronic devices while operating a train or a bus is absolutely prohibited.
