Two near misses in one day at YVR by tbphotos

With ongoing construction and expansion at Vancouver airport (as well as other cities), there is bound to be congestion on the runways as large aircraft have to shuffle for spots on the ground.  Add to this the fact that a jetliner lands at Vancouver every few seconds, and one does not need to be a rocket scientist to know that there is only a certain number of mice are able to anchor themselves on one piece of cheese.  Growing pains always comes with expansion, but when human lives are endangered in the process, safety priorities must be excersized at all times.  Praying that my flight to North Carolina next week goes without incident, my baggage and camera are eager to travel.

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - There were two near misses in one day at Vancouver International Airport.

The Vancouver Sun reports two planes were forced to abort landings on Tuesday because they were too close to other aircraft on the runway.

The TSB admits two such incidents in one day is "unusual" but Transport Canada says it's an example of good safety action, and proof the system works.

There have been eight near misses at YVR logged with Transport Canada so far this year.
