Pembroke, N.C. — A passenger train collided Sunday with a truck in Robeson County, killing two people.

Biven Lochlear, 19, was driving around the crossbars when his 1995 Chevrolet truck was hit by the Amtrak train, authorities said.

Lochlear and passenger Amber Mercer, 18, were killed.

The crash happened at about 12:30 p.m. off Saint Anna Road, near Pembroke.

The collision caused $3,000 worth of damage to the train.

Devin Locklear, 19, of 4561 Evergreen Church Road in Pembroke, and Amber Renee Mercer, 18, of 151 Muffin Road in Rowland, were killed. They were in Locklear's 1995 Chevrolet pickup.

Eye witness account: At aprox 12:40 pm EST, a northbound Amtrak train collided with a blue pickup truck attempting to cross an intersection. The heavily damaged vehicle was tossed to the side of the track. It is unknown if the driver survived the crash. Although the train experienced a sudden jolt, no passengers are reported injured. The train remains at a complete stop on the track with all passengers on board. From Bert Green, passenger and photographer on board the train.
