Two Arab pirates have been killed by the Uk Navy after a pirate ship opened fire on the Royal Navy boats off the coast of Somalia. A Yemeni national was also injured.

Crew from a Royal Navy warship shot dead two Arab pirates after they tried to hijack another vessel, it emerged yesterday.

Hms Cumberland came to the rescue of a Danish merchant ship being attacked in the Gulf of Aden.

There was a firefight before sailors boarded the Yemeni boat on Tuesday.

The MoD said: "Two Somali pirates were shot and killed in self-defence.
