Two Planes Collide in Mid-Air over Pacific

Two planes collided in mid-air over the Pacific Ocean near Long Beach, California earlier this evening. The exact types of planes involved are unknown, but the AP reports them to be private aircraft.The LA County Sheriff's Department, County Fire Department and Coast Guard are involved in a search-and-rescue operation.

A pilot flying over the area claimed to be an eyewitness to the mid-air collision.   The pilot reported the accident to authorities about 5:45 p.m.
