U.N. Envoy Robert Fowler is alive.

According to outgoing U.N. Council president Jean-Maurice Ripert of France, Fowler would be alive. This adding yet another strange twist in the disappearance of Robert Fowler and Louis Guay in Niger last December 14th 2008 wile on official U.N. business the two disappeared along with their driver and another escort 40 Km outside of Niamey the Capital City from Niger. See previous coverage here. http://my.nowpublic.com/world/niger-gov-claims-terrorist-responsible-missing-u-n-envoy

Inner City Press does report that U.N. officials off the record stated that Fowler is alive and asked the Press not to ask any longer since it could jeopardise their safety. Fingers seem to point to Niger’s President Manadou Tanya and his crackdown on anyone trying to get into contact with the MNJ, (Mouvement des Nigeriens pour la Justice) that opposes the Government in Niamey for its discrimination of the Tuareg and Fulani people in the north of the country.

Should Fuller and his aid Louis Guay UN Development Program, and driver Soulmania Mounkaila be alive still and should the Government in Niger be involved as some point out, it will be extremely difficult to solve this and have Fowler and his aid released any time soon. Especially since the President of Niger just tried to change the Constitutions in order to remain in Power.

If I may point out that we where the first to report the possible involvement of the Niger Government in this affair here at NP, thank to contacts and sources in Niger.

Thanks for the report. This one has been hidden in the flurry of international news.

At least he is alive, thank goodness; now he just needs to come home safely.
