U.S. Citizen free after one year in prison in Mexico
La Paz, Baja California Sur.- After making public his desire to start a hunger strike in prison, U.S. citizen Marissa Kelly from New York was released after paying 20 thousand pesos.
Marissa Kelly was caught by police exactly a year ago, allegedly involved with a gang of thieves in Cabo San Lucas. Marissa Kelly, Israel Hernández and Salvador Angulo were captured by police after they raided the hotel "El Encanto" in Cabo San Lucas, where they hit the security guard Jesus Iglesias with a tube.
However from the outset she claimed to be innocent. She says the police asked him five thousand dollars to let it go, but ignored it as she was jailed.
Always said she was innocent. That the police mistook her for another woman (prostitute) that has the same nickname (Kelly).
After one year without receiving the judge's ruling – sentence according to Mexican Law, Marissa Kelly threatened to put on a hunger strike and take their case to the authorities of the United States consulate in Tijuana and Human Rights International.
Surprisingly yesterday, Judge Hugo Flores Bustos dictated sentence of two years in prison or a fine of 20 thousand pesos in cash.
She preferred to pay the 20 thousand for what she got his freedom immediately.
