What the above chart indicates is the dollar amount of GDP which consists of Defense and the dollar amount of GDP which consists of Exports. The line for exports and the line for defense is virtually the same. What it tells us it that American exports are focused on military products and services and that the rest of the world is buying American-made military products and services. It also tells us that the majority of American exports consist of military products and services. In a sense, people are correct when they make the claim that America sells weapons to the rest of the world.
