For years Iran has denied its intentions of creating nuclear weapons of mass destruction but most top officials in governments across the world have expressed their disbelief. As early as January, 2007 the U.S. military announced plans to attack Iran if they became a threat. Last year the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad struck a deal with Russia to import uranium stores to the "Bushehr" nuclear plant. Uranium supplies are necessary to fuel an energy plant but is also capable of supporting the manufacture of bombs. Much speculation continues to race across the world in regards to President Ahmadinejad's intentions to create WMD. Today in Manama, Bahrain - Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in a meeting with the King of Bahrain confirmed that the U.S. still believes Iran is a real threat and that they are making nuclear bombs. Mullen said the U.S. will not allow an attack from Ahmadinejad in the Gulf region or anywhere. He said, "The United States takes very seriously our security commitments in the Gulf region," following a meeting with Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa. At a large U.S. Navy base located in Manama, there to protect the Gulf region and keeping the U.S. military in great force against nuclear threats, Mullen told King Isa al Khalifa "We're very ready," he said, "There are real threats to peace and stability here, and we've made no secrets of our concerns about Iran." The U.S. is ready to defend the Gulf Region should Iran continue to deny Weapons of Mass Destruction and the construction of nuclear bombs.
Iran is trying to build a nuclear bomb, posing a threat to its neighbors, and the United States is "very ready" to counter Iran should it make a move, the top U.S. military officer said Saturday.
