"Pope Benedict XVI's apostolic visit to the United States is a uniquely historical moment.  It has been twenty nine years since the leader of the Roman Catholic Church and Vatican Head of State has visited the White House, and it is the first visit by Pope Benedict to the United States. 

Papal House Resolution 838, unanimously passed Congress this past Wednesday, April 9, 2008.

Congressman Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) (photo), Republican Policy Chairman, submitted the Resolution In The House of Representatives December 4, 2007, honoring Pope Benedict XVI on what will be his first visit to the United States. 

Pope Benedict XVI's visit is considered "a uniquely historical moment".  It is the first visit to the White House by a leader of the Roman Catholic Church and Vatican Head of State in 29 years.
