UCLA protest is underway as hundreds of students gathered to protest against the proposed tuition hike of 32%. UCLA protesters refused to be quite. Campus police arrested 14 vocal protesters who refused to leave; they locked arms and sang "We Shall Overcome".

They were handcuffed and escorted out for unlawful assembly and disturbing the peace. It is unclear if they were students. Police say they will be ticketed and released.

Outside the hall, meanwhile, several hundred protesters gathered, holding banners protesting the likely vote to increase fees and shouting, "Cut from the top!"

The UC Board of Regents is meeting in UCLA to discuss the budget of 2010-11. The committee is expected to approve a request for $913 millions from the state, but also considering a 32% tuition hike.

Today at UCLA - there are copters flying overhead, massive protesting crowds, and people getting tasered & arrested. Fee hike still passed.

Buses are leaving from UC campuses statewide to converge on UCLA tomorrow, when the Regents will confirm the tuition increase.
