The UK and Scottish governments are ready to have their first major fall out over nuclear powerstations.

The UK Government has released a list of 11 sites, of where they could erect new nuclear powerstations in around England and Wales, three of them on, or near the Scottish border.

Scotland's government is against anything nuclear, and have been investing heavily in renewable technologies to power the country.

If the UK government picked a place in Scotland, the Scottish government can block the planning and knock it back.

The UK government has the power to overrule the Scots, a clause created when Scotland was granted devolution, but this is something they have never done.

If they ever did it would make a mockery of the system, and devolution and this is somewhere I don't believe anyone would want.

This would change if the Scottish National Party (SNP) were to lose the elections in 2011, as the other major parties in Scotland support the idea of nuclear.

Another possible fallout between the UK and Scotland is that the SNP are trying to push though a referendum, a yes or no vote if Scotland should have independence and pull out of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Battlelines have been drawn between the UK and Scottish governments over nuclear power.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his ministers have gathered in Glasgow for the cabinet's first meeting in Scotland for almost 90 years.

Energy secretary Ed Miliband told BBC Radio Scotland the Scottish Government's opposition to new nuclear power stations in Scotland was wrong.

But First Minister Alex Salmond said renewable energy was the way forward.

Mr Miliband said: "I disagree with the position the Scottish Executive have taken on this.

"I don't think it's good for Scotland.

There a re quite a few in England who don't want the power stations in their backyard either.

I highly doubt the UK government would risk their relationship with the Scottish government by doing this to be honest - the ripple effect would be too great in my opinion.

Britain is going in the wrong direction and Scotland in the right direction.

although people talk about the cheap electricity of from nuclear power but the environmental cost cant be ignored and cant be defened. there are no known best methods of disposing off the nuclear waste appart fromt he present ones done by the West which is dumping it off in the seas near the third word countries.

I live near 3 nuclear powerstations and although i dont really take much notice of it, a recent discovery had made me ask a lot of questions as to why we are chasing this method of energy production. Hands up if you know the name - Nikola Tesla - anyone? Probably not as the guy has been removed from most of the history books and even most electrical engineers dont know his name even though he was probably the greatest inventor ever. He built a 'Tesla Tower' which harnesses masses of electricity from the Ionisphere, for free!!! He wanted to give this technology to the world but unfortunately, The banking fraudster Rockefella cut his funding (surprise, surprise) and the American government tore it down claiming it could be used by Nazi spies??!?!?!?!?! The patents have been buried by the American government but will no doubt be released once their government has been reclaimed. Check this guy, and his other amazing ideas out, you WILL NOT be disapointed.
