Conservative Party leader David Cameron and his wife Samantha are expecting a baby.

If David Cameron becomes Prime Minister, as many expect, then Downing Street will see the birth of another baby. The last Downing Street birth was Cheri Blair's son Leo 10 years ago.

The Camerons have two children  - a 4-year-old son, Arthur Elwen, and a 6-year-old daughter Nancy - and are still grieving the loss of their child eldest son Ivan, who was severely disabled and died in February last year at the age of 6.

David Cameron has mentioned several times since Ivan's death that he would love to have more children.

A Conservative Party spokesman said,"The baby is due in September and David and Samantha are completely thrilled."

Samantha Cameron will continue to attend two election events a week in the lead up to the general election according to a Conservative Party spokesperson. The announcement comes at a time when Samantha Cameron has been attracting more media attention in the lead up to the election. The baby is due in September.

Mrs Cameron, who works for Smythson, a luxury stationers, will still play a role in the general election campaign. Mr Cameron has said she will take part in two events each week of the campaign.
