UK to face more Snow and Ice in the New Year
For most of the UK it will be a cold start to the New Year with freezing weather for most with ice over England and Wales, widespread Snow in Scotland.
Temperatures should drop to drop to 28F (-3C) in England and Wales on Thursday night, New Year's Eve.
Scotland should see the worst of the weather on Hogmanay with temperatures falling to 17F (-8C) in Scotland, with widespread snow showers hitting most of the country.
Central Scotalnd has had snow for over a week on the ground but it may still be here for another week at least.
An early warning of heavy snow during Tuesday and Wednesday in parts of Wales and central England has been issued.
The Met Office said Shropshire and Herefordshire may be affected, while high ground in eastern Wales could see snowfall above 25cm (9.8ins).
Transport and power supplies are likely to face disruption, it added.
Liverpool's John Lennon Airport has been hit by freezing fog, with some inbound flights diverted to East Midlands and Doncaster airports.
Visibility on the runway is down to just 300m (984ft) and an outbound flight to Gdansk has been cancelled, with the possibility of further cancellations.
