Open letter for understanding.
A number of prominent British Jews have written an open letter calling on the Israeli government to halt its military operations in Gaza immediately.
The letter, published in the Observer, warns the military action, far from improving security, will strengthen extremism and destabilise the region.
The signatories, who declare themselves "passionate supporters of Israel", include several rabbis.
The first major rally in support of Israel in the UK will take place later.
Prominent rabbis, academics and political figures supported the open letter, including Rabbi Dr Tony Bayfield, head of the Movement for Reform Judaism; Sir Jeremy Beecham, former chairman of the Labour party; Professor Shalom Lappin of the University of London and Baroness Julia Neuberger.
Baroness Julia Neuberger, Rabbi London
Neuberger is in many ways the epitome of the white, middle-class, middle-aged, civically engaged activist, with a string of charity trusteeships past and present. But she disagrees that there is a "well-to-do busybody" stereotype, pointing to the thousands of people in minority communities who feel a duty to support their own. Speaking for the Jewish community - she was a rabbi in a liberal synagogue for 12 years, a trustee of the charity Jewish Care for two and half years, and is a consultant for the development of the Jewish Community Centre in north London - she says how and why people volunteer within their communities might provide some clues for the government to help to make volunteering central to how individuals in society function

They do ask for peace, however they fully support Israel and justify its action as well. Blaming solely Hamas for the conflict. I do not think from what I could read in the BBC article as a whole that this can be called progress.

Paschen....I do not think from what I could read in the BBC article as a whole that this can be called progress. Well I understand, however the text interpretation on "Middle-east color language", (sorry have no name yet, if someone could help out with a term) the signal given is communication negotiation. The content is not to look to close, it is written not to provoke immediate sledge hammer by Fundamentalists.

I think religion is not the issue, but ethnic ties.

158...I think religion is not the issue, but ethnic ties. We should give the Rabbi a chance to open "trouble shooting" talks, a meeting of understanding. That's how it is done in the industry, it works.

Not even close to true.
Stalin, Hitler, and Mao killed more people than everyone else in history.

It is all proportional though. Statistically speaking and expressed in percentage one could argue that the Roman, Schaka, Schinges-Kan, And others where just as bad and worth.
I do not dispute the fact that the Nazi, the Stalinist and Maoist where terrible and committed atrocities and Genocide. However if one person Kills 100 people or a 1000 people kill 10,000 people the results is proportional the same in dimensions.
Still, if one conceders Ethics rather then proportions then would it less of a crime to kill on Person then killing ten?
Where is the limit before one is considered a monster and a criminal, is it by Killing 100 innocent people or a 100,000 innocent people? Or would killing one innocent person suffice?
Then there is the question of how? Is killing some one with a knife more barbaric then killing them with a bomb or bullet? Or maybe it is all the same, since the end result is the same, is it not? They are all dead once killed no matter how and no matter where or by whom.
Many seem to forget that does killed are Human beings that could very well be once self or once own child, wife, Brother, Husband, Parent, Friend... It could be you your self if you where born in Palestine and as a Palestinian. You where just lucky I suppose.
Well I think those of us that where lucky should and have the moral obligation to help those that where not so lucky.

skunkmix10....I am sick of all these wars and blood shed why cant we all just get along..or am I just being stupid? I agree, that's what the Rabbi Tony Bayfield "Reform Judaism" wants to tell us in his words. My opinion if we want to get along we need to create a local farmer market economy, people in work, a middle class can stabilize the situation themselves
