UK soldier dies after being caught in Afghanistan blast
Yet another family will be mourning the loss of a loved one instead of celebrating the New Year, as militant action continues in a country torn apart by extremists from one side or the other for decades.
With each death that occurs, the public ask why we are there, when we are going to leave...
On both sides of the Atlantic people are tired of seeing the constant stream of headlines naming the fallen, and just as tired of asking the same questions, and just as tired of getting no response from the people elected to carry out the wishes of the electorate. The respective governments should remember who pays the wages, this is an election year in the UK this year, maybe they have had their chance to listen, and have ignored us long enough.
A British bomb disposal expert died on New Year's Eve after being caught in a explosion in Afghanistan, said the MoD.
The soldier was from 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), Royal Engineers, based at Carver Barracks, in Wimbish, north Essex.
The blast happened near Patrol Base Blenheim, close to Sangin in Helmand Province. Next of kin have been told.
The UK death toll from operations in Afghanistan since 2001 is now 245 - with 108 killed in 2009 alone.
