A new plan to deal with young troublemakers is stirring up a lot of controversy in Britain, with the shadow home secretary saying that youth will be confined to their homes for up to a month under a new plan.

If the youth is caught misbehaving regularly, police can apply for a court order to 'ground' them, confining them to their homes. Anyone breaking this 'curfew' will find themselves in cells, said shadow home secretary Chris Grayling.

In his first major speech as shadow home secretary, Chris Grayling said those who break curfews "should expect to find themselves in the cells".

Police would apply for a court order to "ground" youths for up to a month.

He also said police should be able to take youngsters caught misbehaving to stations and call their parents.

This new plan would be on top of the current 'Operation Staysafe', which has British police confronting youths out at night and escorting them home to talk with their parents, and bring in a social worker for a meet up.

New measures to get children off the streets at night are being rolled out across the country.

Operation Staysafe will give police the power to hand young people over to social workers.

It'll soon be in place in more than 30 different parts of England.

Within reason this is a good idea, and maybe it will force families to spend time together. I guess it will only work if there are youth projects working at the same time, if kids find something that interests them surely they wouldn’t misbehave in the first place??
