The Ukraine has signed a deal to allow the exchange of Russian gas supplies to Europe, according to the Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

"We signed the protocol today," Tymoshenko said after talks with Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek in the Ukrainian capital Kiev.

Topolanek said: "Ukraine has approved and accepted all conditions enabling Russia to supply gas.

"Nothing prevents the deployment of monitoring teams and renewal of gas transit," he added.

Russia suspended the supplies last week because they claimed that Kiev as illegally siphoning the gas, which the Ukraine denied.
The cold weather combined with no heat caused havoc across the country, even causing some deaths.
