Much has been made of China's use of the "Great Firewall" to block many major and minor websites during the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre,  but Chinese officials are also using a much more low-tech technique to block information: umbrellas.

Police use umbrellas to stop filming on Tiananmen

Reporters from CNN, BBC, and AFP have reported that undercover Chinese officials have used large open umbrellas to block people from taking photographs of Tiananmen Square. 

CNN reporter Jaime FlorCruz reports:

Just drove around T Square: it's swarming with hordes of uniformed and plainclothes cops, some carrying similar umbrellas.
