Unemployed and Overqualified in Canada?

Was it last week that I invited Now Public members to peruse my nascent group on Facebook- which I encourage any of you who are on EI, are forced into work overseas (like myself), or have serious qualms about how the Canadian Government is reacting to a colossal problem that has spread out of control and has the potential to become even worse.

East Van Ray at first brought to my attention that my first post was not newsworthy, in part, he is correct. Ray "This Bud's for You!" and I don't mean that in any sort of derogatory or negative manner- here is your response.

At present we in Canada have mainstream media outlets that are not even seeing past the point that the reason why EI benefits are dropping isn't because people are finding jobs; they are running out of benefits and companies are hiring from within. They post external hires to be on the right side of the law, and will only hire internally because it is far more economically viable. It is not what you know it is who ya know! Meanwhile our supposedly credible news outlets are touting this as a victory for Canada's Economic Plan. I have never been a big fan of blaming political parties because it does not matter who is in power. Once they reach office their ideologies are skewed by reality and bureaucracy, however there are of course undoubtedly certain exceptions.

Should we continue on the path of neglecting the unemployed, overqualified and most importantly those who cannot deal with the frustrating amount of inflation that is pushing most of us here in Vancouver to the brink of chaos, considering land values have largely become a speculators dream. Moreover, there are the progeny of the landed wealthy (those who came to Vancouver in the 50's, 60's, and 70's and bought waterfront property for 60 thousand dollars that is now worth sometimes over 7 million!) who are taking up fixed/ variable mortgages that they will likely have difficulty renegotiating, therefore, we will end up with another crisis in a few years time.

An aging workforce with a an abundance of skills will have to comeback as mentors (as is already happening), and the employees that certain companies are retrenching in the tertiary sector: Overpaid Senior staff are being replaced by younger staff with similar qualifications so they can pay them 25 cents on the dollar instead of the 75 cents the older retrenched employee was once paid. Then they are throwing them back out onto the street and expecting them to find affordable housing in decent neighbourhoods... The government is absolutely oblivious to what is happening; and if they were to give you an answer they would tell you about all of the wonderful programs going on to combat this when in the meantime, the programs they have created are completely futile.

As for Canada's Economic Plan, retraining the workforce, several folk I have encountered have done this with disastrous results and ended up into more debt paying for these supposed miracle programs. Why I ask? Is the younger generation who are now expected to replace and take care of our aging parents in a society who has no respect for their children past 18 actually going take on the role to pay money they do not have for their own parents who most of them despise: Social security is bankrupt and non- existent! Will all of the baby boomers progeny be so lucky to inherit any capital? Alberta already has an active elder neglect problem where billboards are being placed on the street by the government to raise awareness.

Future employment could go anywhere in the IT department and many pundits are predicting that many new jobs will have to be created to accommodate new technology we haven't even heard of. Are we preparing for this? Do now employable Canadians with obsolete degrees and obsolete experience let alone our new Canadian immigrants who take longer to integrate into certain roles which make them less attractive hires have time for this. They need help now, not a partisan federal government who is placating the issue so they can pad the landing strip for their next election win. Canada's mainstream media is hard up to report on any of this while inflation continues to hit everyone hard, despite the fact that an economist can manipulate his or her figures at anytime to suit their agendas and tell us that inflation is steady... BS. You can by a 2002 S- Class Mercedes for next to nothing, but then you have to fill up your V12 with gas which makes up for the over 85 percent depreciation the vehicle suffered. In the meantime the price of a fuel efficient vehicle skyrockets in order for you to save money on gas balancing the equation. 

The point being we have mismanaged what I like to call our created number system so outrageously that nobody knows who to believe or where to turn. How are we going to fix this for countless amounts of people who went to school did all of the right things when they could have been better off and a lot less stressed out as pot farmers- a commodity California is now considering taxing; I hope they place a harm reduction strategy in place at the same time!

In Vancouver we just had a multi billion dollar party that was a blast- the Winter Olympics, but instead of riding off of its coattails in this city and creating a mardi gras mania for years to come that would create hundreds of new jobs in policing, hospitality and tourism we have gone gently into the good night... And are further punishing our demoralized populace

With a tiny manufacturing sector, we are forcing people to leave Canada to fund their addiction to it. A reality for most people in this world who are working overseas and remitting their earnings back home. Except here, our governments will figure ever single way how to squeeze every penny in taxation out of that. Why not start re- evaluating our commodity chains and vices ripe for taxation because our economy is out of wack and losing money in too many places where it could be gaining. Does Canada deserve this? Do long time Canadian residents deserve this? Absolutely not. Our Canada no longer includes or deserves its citizens because it perceives it has nothing left to exploit. Besides what happens to all of those taxes that we pay? Say goodbye to the middle- class, the cornerstone of every nutritious economy, arguably it is already dead. This is why I believe the Canadian flag has been turned upside down in disgrace (funny I had a great fiasco over this on my facebook group to draw awareness to this crusade I am trying to champion; it was almost to the point of death threats over an upside down Canadian flag, little did I realize not all could figure out the symbolism behind the charade and many found it extremely offensive, you cannot please everyone...)
