United States In Charge of Haiti Airport: Haiti Gives USA Control
The United States is now in charge of the airport in Haiti under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) reached between the Unites States and Haitian Government.
The control over the Haitian by the United States is being described as "indefinite."
Reuters reports the following "Prime Minister (Jean-Max) Bellerive signed a memorandum of understanding granting airport control to the United States," State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley told a briefing.
"Obviously we will assume this responsibility as long as its appropriate and to the point where the Haitian government is able and ready to resume that capability."
Right now, the airport in Haiti is functional because of the U.S. Air Force.
