University President asks Trustees to Revoke Mugabe's Honorary Degree

Jack Wilson, the University of Massachusetts President has recommended to the Board of Trustees that they revoke an honorary degree awarded 20 years ago to Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe.

Wilson said Monday that the degree has been smeared by years of misrule in the southern Africa nation.

His statement came after The Boston Globe reported a key state lawmaker said continuing to honor Mugabe runs contrary to the values the university stands for.

Mugabe received an honorary doctorate of law in 1986, after he was hailed for ending an oppressive white rule and establishing an independent Zimbabwe.

He has since been condemned for attacks on dissidents, ruining the economy and accused of running a corrupt government.

The trustees are to act on the recommendation at their June meeting. The school has never rescinded an honorary degree.

Shame on them for giving him the honour in the first place. 20 years ago he was known to be a brutal dictator authorizing attacks on and the killing of white farmers. It seems that the values of the State of Massachusetts are only offended with the spilling of black blood. What next? revoking the honoury degree that they gave Mussolini for making the trains run on time?

Sure. Who cares? Not like GWB needs any degrees to move up the employment ladder. Seems that you are fixated on Bush. Who will you hate when he is gone? I suppose President McCain, eh? It must crush you to see Hillary get beat like the flea-bitten, fat-assed dog that she is.

Who isn't fixated on Bush? He has wrecked the country and killed thousands of innocent people. Bush doesn't need a degree. His degree is his gun, his bullets, his threats. I hate violence, I hate people who represent it, and all I can do is beg for my life. But I shall never be able to love their acts and criminality. McCain already has a nice murder list on his life record.

For your information I am not voting in the election. America is a loss cause, a sunken ship, a backward has been era, a crime scene one after another, a den of prostitution, a government with no laws. It only has guns and bullets to influence the world. It is Rome a loss empire.

Wow! I think you need a life of your own. Politics is not life and George Bush is no worse a president than JFK or Clinton was. I am sorry, djermano but non-violence does not win the day. Ask the leaders of China (read about Mao) if you don't believe me.

Did you say that you were an American citizen? Did you attend school there? I am puzzled by a contradiction. You make decent arguments (wrong headed and somewhat delusional albiet) but I have noticed that your use of the english language is far from what I expect from an educated American.

I have a life of my own. Politics is life when it is killing innocent people in the world, and then to have us close our minds to them, is worse than actually pulling the trigger. Nonviolence is the winner of the day because Jesus said it is. He is God. How can God not be the winner of the day? I know all about China History and the reasons how things came to being. That is I have a head on my shoulder to understand that history written by criminals in the USA who supported the Opium Trade surely are not going to give or represent real history and facts.

I am an American Citizen, born in Indiana, lived in the USA for 43 years, lived through Vietnam, saw JKF killed, Martin Luther King Jr. Killed, Malcom X killed. I did attend school for a short time, and was in the USAF, to realize that what they are telling us is a bunch of BS. You can't graduate unless you tow the line to their indoctrination. I believe the majority of Americans are wrong headed and delusional to life when they support insane Presidents, and a Constitutional that has no meaning except the right to smash other peoples rights for the sake of their rights.
