UPCL disconnects, restores power supply to Nagar Palika Mussoorie

MUSSOORIE, 31 Mar: Electricity department and Nagar Palika came to loggerheads with each other when electricity department which was running 100 p.c. recovery drive disconnected supply at all installation of Nagar Palika including the Main office, Mount Rose camp office, electricity at fountains and Dispensary at Library Bazaar due to non payment of Bills since 1976 and restored it later under immense pressure from various quarters. Nagar Palika had to use in emergency their back up facility in form of generator during for few hours.
Chairman Nagar Palika Mussoorie OP Uniyal said that it wrong for the Power Department to disconnect electricity without serving prior notice. On the contrary, the Power department has not paid single penny as rent to Palika for using its property since 1976 which amounts to whopping Rs 15 Crores.
Reacting to this Executive Engineer YS Tomar, the Power Department said that they were ready to pay all the arrears provided Palika was ready to pay all their dues since 1976 till that time the electricity will remain disconnected. EO Nagar Palika PS Rawat admitted that UPCL had disconnected the electricity supply which was unfortunate .
