Due to the recent violence and loss of close to 50 lives in Karachi, the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha might be somewhat lack-lustre, particulary in the strife-ridden parts of the city. However, sacrificial animals are being sold and bought; and shopping centres in most parts of the city are teeming with shoppers. Over 2.5 million Muslim pilgrims from all over the world will be performing Haj in Mecca this year between 7 to 11 December. The pilgrims then perform an animal sacrifice (cows, goats, sheep or camels), and celebrate the four day global festival of Eid-ul-Azha
KARACHI, Dec 4: Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfikar Ali Mirza on Thursday directed the police department to evolve a comprehensive security plan to ensure safety and security of citizens across Sindh during the upcoming Eid in the backdrop of recent violence in Karachi.
He asked Sindh inspector-general to depute police personnel around mosques, Imambargahs and Eidgahs, besides setting up watch towers over multi-storey buildings. He also ordered increased patrolling and deployment of bomb disposal experts at major Eidgahs.
The minister stressed the need for integration of intelligence agencies and police department, particularly in the violence-hit areas so that any possible subversion plan could be foiled.
He called for strict implementation of the rules and regulations against display of weapons by workers of different political parties and groups, and said such activities during collection of hides and skins of sacrificial animals must not trigger tension or clashes.
He said SPOs and SHOs were supposed to ensure security of hides/skin traders and their vehicles involved in transporting the stocks. —
