Update: 10 students injured as quake jolts parts of Pakistan
A tremor measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted northern parts of Pakistan Friday morning, Most of the areas of Pakistan that were ravaged by an earthquake on October 8, 2005 were among the areas hit by the quake.
The quake created panic among people who rushed out of their homes despite rain in Mansehra and Battagram districts of the North West Frontier Province. Reports from Mansehra said roads leading to Naran, Kaghan and Konsh valleys remained blocked because of landslides.
As many as 10 children of Primary School at Lower Kas in Bakot area of Abbottabad district were injured when the wall of the school fell on them because of the earthquake. Injured children included Adnan, Hafiza, Owais, Mubashar, Ahmad, Mohammad Hussain, Ashfaq, Mubashar and Fatima.
ISLAMABAD: A magnitude 5.8 quake hit upper parts of the country and Kashmir on Friday morning, sending residents rushing from their homes in panic.
A quake jolted Lahore, Peshawar, Islamabad, Muzzafarabad, Mansehra, Abbotabad, Chitral, Sialkot, Kark, Balakot, Neelum Valley, Chakothi, Rawalpindi, Gojar Khan, Deena, Sohawa, Jehlum and other areas. Two children were reportedly sustained injuries.
Director General of metrological office Chaudhry Qamar-uz-Zaman told Geo News the epicenter of the quake was in Baramula area of held Kashmir.
A newly constructed government school building was partially damaged in Muzzafarabad.
The U.S. Geological Survey measured the tremor at 5.8 magnitude and put the epicenter 26 km beneath the earth.
