Revolution in Moldova
UPDATE:
4-11-2009:
According to another shortwave transmission from Radio Romania International, Moldovan President Voronin agreed to a recount in the parliamentary election.
The Voice of Russia and Russia Today interviewed a member of the Foreign Ministry in that country. He commented about former Soviet Countries being forced to choose between Russia and the USA.
The underwriter will continue to monitor the situation as needed.
4-10-2009: According to Radio Romania International, the EU has asked Moldova to reestablish diplomatic relations with Romania. Romanian Journalists have been expelled as it appears that Moldova is reverting to Stalinism.

I heard the Shortwave Broadcasts of Radio Romania International in Spanish on 4-9-2009 from 2300-0000 UTC [7:00PM-8:00PM] on the 9655 khz 31m dial. For those who think shortwave listening is dead, Radio Romania International interviewed one of the opposition from Moldova by telephone.
The person from Moldova responded to the interviews by saying that people are listening to their shortwave radios while computers and other forms of communications are silenced or "close to it". He added that shortwave radios have been a constant companion along with Twitter and Facebook.
The same person interviewed talked about the deteriorating situation and the increase in tension between the older and younger generation. He also asked for more publicity regarding what is happening in Moldova since the Communist Government is trying to blame people and repress the publicity surrounding what is ocurring.

I have received replies from readers in Moldova who have offered pages to visit concerning the Moldovan Revolution. Unfortunatly, they have been blocked. I managed to visit the webpage of Radio Romania International [The International Broadcaster on Shortwave and Internet].
The President of Moldova Voronin in addition to expelling the Romanian Ambassador to Moldova has done the same thing to one of the ambassador's advisers. Voronin and the Communist Government seems intent on blaming Romania for the problems in Moldova.
Mr. Voronin has introduced visa requirements for visiting Moldova from Romania while the Prime Minister of Romania Emil Broc has accused the Moldovan Government of provocation.
Regardless the Romanian Government has stated that it will not allow itself to be provoked. The Moldovan Ambassador to Romania will remain and entry visa to Moldovans free of charge will be provided according to Mr. Broc.
There have been reports about Moldovan Government troops arresting children in hospital beds. So much for Communism with a Human Face in Moldova.

4-8-2009@ 3:00PM Miami Time
Radio Romania International, the Shortwave and Internet International Broadcaster of Romanian Radio and Television wrote an editorial titled "Reactions to Events in Kishiniev".
In the editorial, there is talk of a generation gap in Moldovan Society between the elderly population that lives in the rural areas and the youth who are urban.
The elderly population are described as those who are nostalgic for Communism and repeatedly vote for them. The youth who are concentrated in the urban areas and are Pro European in their thinking want a Moldova that is progressing like the rest of the European Union.
Romanian Magazines have commented about how the "revolution went from Bucharest to Kishiniev [Chisinau]" while others have commented about "the 1989 Revolution in Romania being the first live revolution on television while the 2009 one is the first in Twitter".

According to the Sofia Times in Bulgaria, one person was reported dead and 50 were injured. This was also reported by Realitatea TV of Romania from reporters inside the Moldovan Capital of Chisinau. The number of demonstrators have been 30,000.
It appears that the Government has been able to retake parliament. Moldovan President Voronin and the Prime Minister Grecianii has held talks with the opposition while EU Foreign Policy Head Javier Solana has been urging restraint. The UN Chief Ban Ki-moon has also called for restraint.
The talks have not gone anywhere with the Government accusing the students and opposition groups of attempting a coup while the Opposition claims that the election was stolen. President Voronin has asked for intervention from the West in the Moldovan Situation.
President Voronin gave a speech on Moldovan TV accusing the opposition of being "Fascist who are drunk with anger and hate with the intention of trampling democracy". He went ahead and blamed Romania for the violence in Moldova. Mr. Voronin finished his speech by declaring the Romanian Ambassador to Moldova as a "Persona Non Grata" or not welcomed.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has talked about a "plot to undermine Moldova". One of the International Observers [Baroness Emma Nicholson] in the latest election has expressed doubts that the elections were free and fair. According to Vlad Fillat of the Liberal Democratic Party, the revolt is "a spontaneous action by protesting young people".
The news about the demonstration has spread via the Internet and Twitter. The underwriter attempted to call Moldova and Romania from an undisclosed place in Miami Florida without success. The underwriter also heard Radio Bulgaria on his shortwave radio and there were similar reports to what is being written.
There will be more information as the situation in Moldova evolves.

At a time when it appears that tyranny has taken hold in the American Continent [under the Republicans, Democrats, and 21st Century Communist/Socialists] and elsewhere, Moldovan Students are protesting against their Communist Rulers.
The story is also being monitored from shortwave reception broadcasts from Radio Romania International and Moldovan Radio.
The protests have ocurred after the Communists won 50% of the vote in the Presidential Elections but not enough seats in Parliament to secure a majority. The students believe that the results are fraudulent and have invaded the parliament building.
During their invasion of the parliament, windows have been smashed with furniture being thrown out of the building and burned. The members of the opposition parties have been protesting with the students in the capital Chisinau.
At the present time, I can only confirm what the BBC said in that now Moldovan Radio is playing traditional music after giving the news briefly via shortwave radio. There will be an attempt to contact the parties involved and there will be an update.
Meanwhile, as soon as more news comes from Radio Romania International and other media there will be information.

According to Deutsche Welle, The Moldovan Government is considering a recount of the ballots in the last election. In another development, the outgoing President of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Moldova accuses the opposition and the students of planning a military coup.
The attempts to listen to Moldovan TV or Radio have failed. Radio Romania International is also transmitting the same information in their shortwave radio program as Reuters and Deutsche Welle.

The situation is critical. The present communist regime stole a lot of votes. Dead people voted, mentally challenged ( OSCE observers stated that if they have an ID it is ok to vote ), some people voted several times, people arrived at the voting centres and found out that they had already voted!!!!! A real shame for the US and EU as they always talk about democracy but never move an inch unless they have an oil interest. Imagine living with 200 USD/month like the people in Moldova. Let's just hope they do not send the army to shoot the crowd. Most of them are students. The borders are closed, they shut down mobile phones, internet and everything possible to keep this quiet. In a lot of cities from Moldova the people are demonstrating against the regime. Help them!!!! Spread the news.
