Updated ***Jumper poised on the Aurora, SR-99 Bridge
Seattle, Wa. 1:00 pm pst. -- A man appears to be poised to jump off of the 99 bridge that crosses over the ship canal. He is positioned on the west bound side and flanked by approximately 5-7 police officers. The bridge has been completely shut down, and what can be assumed to be as negotiations are currently in progress. More will be reported as we hope and pray that this new years will not be this man's last.
Follow-up -- The situation appears to have been resolved with a positive outcome. The bridge is back open, and i have attached a link from The Washington Department of Transportation about the Aurora 99 Bridge Fence Project; here is an excerpt -
"A fence will help deter people from jumping or falling from the Aurora Bridge. In addition, a fence will help protect those who live, work and play below the bridge. These people are at risk when someone jumps or falls from the bridge and those who witness an incident are often traumatized by the experience. This work benefits emergency responders who must dive into the murky waters of the Lake Washington Ship Canal after someone jumps or to save people who jump from the Aurora Bridge," (WSDOT, 2010).
