Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is under increasing pressure to resign or face being removed from office.  But perhaps with his impressive defense “dream team,” Kilpatrick may believe it is best to hold his ground. City Council President Kenneth V. Cockrel, Jr. reportedly asked Gov. Granholm to remove Kilpatrick from office in May, but Kilpatrick was determined to remain mayor.  In fact, he filed suit yesterday against Governor Jennifer Granholm to stop a removal hearing scheduled for Wednesday.  Kilpatrick’s lawsuit alleges that Gov. Granholm is just plain biased against him.

Public sentiment seems to be turning against Kilpatrick retaining his office, and he appears to be losing support among business leaders.

PENSKE ON KILPATRICK:  IT'S TIME HE MOVES ON

Santiago Esparza / The Detroit News
Friday, August 29, 2008

DETROIT -- Businessman Roger Penske said it is time for Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to resign and look for another role in his life.

"At this particular time, with all the pressure, it's time that he moves on and takes another role in his life," Penske told WWJ-AM (950) this morning. "The more we sit here and pull an angle, it does him no good and certainly does the city no good."

Penske is organizing the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix this weekend. During an interview about the race with WWJ, Penske said he once supported the mayor but thinks now is the time for Kilpatrick to leave office.

Many citizens of Detroit wish to see the city and Mr. Kilpatrick and Ms. Beatty resolve these problems according to what is best and right for all parties.  Hopefully, whatever his penalty, Mr. Kilpatrick and Ms. Beatty will emerge from these experiences and go on to fulfill the bright promise of their earlier years.

DETROIT (AP) ~ Michigan's governor will hold a hearing Wednesday that could decide whether the mayor of Detroit is ousted.  Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has tried to block the hearing, but he was turned away Tuesday by an appeals court.  The hearing concerns whether he misled members of Detroit's City Council about his settling of lawsuits with former police officers.

UPDATE 3-10-09 - JUDGE ALLOWS KILPATRICK TO MOVE TO TEXAS

DETROIT (AP) - Disgraced ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s remaining days in Detroit may be short.

A judge ruled Tuesday that Kilpatrick is allowed to leave Michigan for a software sales job just north of Dallas that is expected to pay him an estimated $120,000 per year.

He’ll likely need the cash: Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David Groner has ordered Kilpatrick to pay $6,000 per month over the first six months of employment toward his $1 million restitution to the city.

Kilpatrick attorney James Thomas had asked last month that his client be allowed to travel to Dallas to train at Covisint, an affiliate of Detroit-based software maker Compuware Corp.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy opposed the request and said Kilpatrick was not forthcoming with all details about the Covisint job. She also claimed Kilpatrick was living a “glitzy lifestyle” without the means to pay for it.

The mayor of Detroit is finished ...

He is in the process right now of negotiating his resignation from office for a guarantee of no jail time ...

Then there's the matter of the 150-million dollar civil suit against the city concerning the wrongful death of an exotic dancer which is a major spinoff of this whole sordid affair ...

Thanks for the "good stuff."  Well, what do you know about that?  Just when I was beginning to have a bit of fun with Kilpatrick's attorney team, he caves in.  And it turns out that Parkman left the defense team a couple of weeks ago.

If I find any info on the exotic dancer episode, I'll update the story.

The Honorable Mayor finds himself in a bit of a pinch now that even more felony charges have been leveled against him for an incident involving an assault on a couple of sheriff's deputies who were in the line of duty serving a warrent to a friend the mayor was visiting at the time, a friend who also may find himself up to the eyballs in alligators before too much longer ...

The situation now pinching Kilpatrick is an upcoming hearing this Tuesday at which Governor Granholm may decide to move forward in an official way to remove him from office ... if he doesn't cut a deal before then, and the Gov. decides agains him, he's gonna find himelf in a very pretty pickle indeed ...

"It's like the Sopranos," someone close to the case has remarked ...

See what I mean?  Kilpatrick should really have held on to his Cochran Firm attorney.  Betcha Parkman and his Alabama team could have finagled something!

Nobody should go to jail until George Bush goes to jail.

Wow, Fige.

You want to know my BIGGEST problem with the Bush administration?  They LIED on my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

He would NEVER agree to bombing any country without clear provacation and even then, He would probably insist that we give diplomacy every opportunity to work things out without bloodshed.

I hear that George Bush reads the Bible every day.  Well, he needs to read the NEW TESTAMENT, since he claims to be a Christian.

JESUS IS LOVE.  And he rates loving one another right up there with loving the Father.

Blessings,

Mary
