Update:

The Conservatives pledged during the election campaign never to run a deficit, but Flaherty said the sudden decline in the global and domestic economies has brought Ottawa perilously close to a budget deficit. He predicted a surplus of only $800 million this year and an even slimmer cushion of only $100 million next year. This is down from $9.6 billion last year. "We take no pleasure in saying that despite our best efforts, this may not be enough to keep a small surplus on the books," he said.
In coming weeks, "we will determine the extent to which we will inject additional stimulus into our economy, joining the efforts of our international partners," Flaherty said in his speech. A video released today by a divided Liberal Party takes direct aim at Prime Minister Harper and his conservative government for a "change in their tune" in regard to the Federal deficit.

A deficit which Prime Minister Harper and his conservative counterparts have repeatedly stated they would not run so long as they were occupying residence at Sussex.

Although the Harper Family still takes up residence at 24 Sussex Drive, it is widely expected that Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will announce during Thursday’s government economic and fiscal update that the Conservative Party does indeed intend to run a deficit during the 09' calender year.

The attack ad, which aired today on Liberal TV featured heavyweights such as the lame duck leader of the Liberal Party Stéphane Dion (Saint-Laurent – Cartierville), Liberal Napalm John McCallum (Markham – Unionville), Popular leadership choice Martha Hall - Findlay (Willowdale) and the Premier brother David McGuinty all calling into question the Conservatives intent to run a deficit as well as their accountability for the state of Canada's financials.

The two minute and twenty four-second infomercial reminds Canadian’s that the Conservative Party has created their own mess and that running a deficit is nothing more than a response to poor Conservative governing.

Lesser known Liberal’s like Scott Brison (Kings – Hants) expressed their view that Canada’s new Deficit Daddy, Steven Harper had spent Canada into the international financial crisis. Zing

Well the infomercial on Liberal TV showed a Liberal Party united and focussed on their opposition; we all know how foolish it is to believe everything/anything we see on TV. Unity in the Liberal Party could be a beautiful thing unfortunately when I consulted my own magic eightball this morning the reply was hazy.
