Police have named a family of six killed in a collision involving three lorries and two cars on the M6 in Cheshire on Monday evening. David Statham, 38, his wife Michelle, 33, and their four children Reece, 13, Jay, nine, Nafon, 20 months, and baby Elouise, 10 weeks, died in the crash. They were returning to Llandudno, north Wales, after visiting relatives. A Portuguese lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The crash happened in traffic caused by an earlier accident on the same motorway in which former rugby league player David Myers died. Cheshire Police said the family had not yet been formally identified but that they had permission from relatives to name them. Mr Statham worked as a chef at St David's College in Llandudno where pupils and staff were in shock, said school bursar Judith Leslie.

Five people - two adults and three children - have been killed in an horrific crash on the UKs busy M6 motorway in Cheshire.

This is one of the UK's busiest motorways and it appears that the accident happened in 'slow heavy traffic'.

The car appears to have been hit by a lorry and then to have almost instantly exploded in a fireball killing all passengers.

Five people were killed when their car caught fire in a collision with three lorries and another car on a motorway.

Two adults and three other people, all believed to be children, died in Monday night's crash on the M6 in Cheshire.

It happened between Junction 16 at Barthomley and Junction 17 for Sandbach at about 2240 BST.

A 46-year-old lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, a Merseyside Police spokeswoman said.

The man is believed to be either Spanish or Portuguese and will be questioned through an interpreter.

Three young children and two adults died when their car burst into flames in an accident involving three lorries and another car on a motorway in Cheshire, police said on Tuesday.

The accident happened on the northbound carriageway of the M6 between junction 16 at Barthomley and junction 17 at Sandbach late on Monday.

Police found five bodies in the car that caught fire. The victims have not been identified. No one else was injured.

The driver of one of the lorries, a Spanish man in his mid-40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A Cheshire police spokeswoman said part of the motorway will be closed during the morning rush hour while investigators work at the scene. Police did not say what caused the crash.

Mr Evans

i am a young driver and i was travelling southbound and saw the chaos just after it had happened. i didnt know what had gone on until i was told by my father who is a firefighter in the area of this incident (not accident as that would reveal there is noone to blame) i was then told that the 5 passengers in the vehicle travelling northbound were screaming to get out of the car. this is such an almighty shame and my thoughts are with the family and friends of these such innocent people. Drivers need to be paying more attention on the roads as 1 wrong move in that split second could change your life forever. i also think that all the emergency services dealt with this incident very well! so well done!

young driver from the local area.
