URANIUM! The next Energy crisis may cripple the Western Nations and it has all ready started!

By, Uwe Paschen.

Energy, our main focus since the Oil crisis of the 1970 has been Nuclear, yet, once the Oil crisis was over we focused once again on Oil!

Now that we are in the middle of a new Oil crisis much worse than the previous one, many such as Canada, the USA, China, Japan and especially France and GB focus once again on Nuclear power!

With plans to build many new Nuclear Power station around the World, some already under way in Canada, the USA and France as well as in China, the demand for raw URANIUM is rising!

Germany, Sweden are not going back into Nuclear power though, they are closing more and more Nuclear Power stations since the 1990, mainly because no one knows what to do with the Toxic waste, that is being stored in salt mines and in some cases just dumped into the Ocean, providing us with a ticking time bomb for future generations!

Why the next Energy crisis? Simple, we get most of our Uranium from Australia, Canada and from Niger about making Australia, Canada and Niger the three main Uranium sources in the World today!

The Problem is that the Uranium in Niger is in the Air Mountain, the home of the Tuaregs, who have lived there now over 2000 years and so far no one cared much about them since where they live is the middle of the Sahara dessert!

See: http://www.nowpublic.com/world/end-tuaregs-niger-chad-mali-and-cameroon-algeria-and-libya

However the Tuareg have been a minority in Niger whose main population the Houssa, live in the far south along the great Niger River, controlling, politics, government, Army and Police.

The Tuaregs demand equal rights and Schools, even to be part of the Government and to be allowed to have a say in what is to be done with their home land and their future!

The 2 to 3 Million Tuaregs have been subdue by the FAN (Niger's Armed Forces) Since the Government in Niamey is not willing to grant them even a hearing!

This constant discrimination and oppression has brought the Tuaregs to rebel! At first with a Political party of their own, the MNJ (Niger's movement for Justice),  but this party was outlawed by the Niger Government and the party leaders put in prison as well as any Journalist that dared to write about their demands and goals for justice for all people in Niger!

The Tuareg were forced to work in the Uranium mines and supposed to stay silent or be silenced by force! This was the beginning of the Tuareg uprising in Niger!

The Tuaregs have been persecuted ever since they dared to speak up and to speak out and every day Tuareg civilians get arrested, tortured and often killed. Many of the victims are Children and most helpless against their aggressor the FAN (Niger's Armed Forces).

The FAN (Nigers's Armed Forces) has reportedly poisoned wells and water holes essentially the only water source for the Tuaregs and their life stock, killing them by the dozens since those water hole and wells are the 'gold of the dessert' and absolutely vital for the Nomads and the villagers, such action by it  self is genocide to a people, for which the FAN and the Niger Government should be put on trial in an international court for such crimes!

The Uranium mines may soon be no more since the MNJ intends to blow them up so that the FAN has no longer a source of revenue used to surpress the Tuareg.

Since the USA, Canada, France, GB and China as well as Japan, do have a great Hunger for Uranium for their Nuclear Power Stations. they want to make sure the supply does not dry out!

And there for they support Niger's Government and the FAN with advice and Weapons as well as training and Mercenaries to fight the Tuaregs. Since four of the Countries in need of Uranium also have veto power in the UNO security council, it is very unlikely that the Tuaregs will ever get heard nor have even a remote chance to survive this Genocide!

Unless the Public throughout the World listens and cries out! No news comes out or barely any, since the Countries in need of Uranium want a cheap and steady supply of this energy source, none of them are interested in Justice even less in Human Rights, after all they are only 2 to 3 Million Tuaregs left all over North West Africa and who will care.

No one did for Darfour really, or Rwanda and even less for Zimbabwe now that China and Russia have vetoed any UN sanction against Zimbabwe. The chance that any one would care about the Genocide committed against the Tuaregs in Niger before it will be to late any how, is rather remote.

We need our energy more and the Price of our energy supply does not allow for Human rights nor do the Tuareg matter enough for us to care about their faith as long as we get cheap Uranium out of Niger!

However should the Tuareg succeed in destroying the Uranium Mines, we in the West may have to pay dearly for energy and run out of Uranium!

Are we really that shallow in the Western Nations as to let Genocide be happening before our eyes just so we may have enough cheap Uranium for ourselves?

Paschen, I like this story. It's good stuff.  A really important story.  Just what NP is about.  The trouble with the commercial press is that each news item is 'here today and gone tomorrow'.

Paschen

Thank you for the Flag here and the great comment you made! I appreciate it very much!

You are correct on the Press, worth is that much does not get covered because of politics or sales!

good stuff:

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention here on NP Paschen.

Always interesting to read something about a part of the world so often overlooked.

Paschen

Always a pleasure to hear from you and have your input here Johnny Summerton. Thank you for the flag, your support on this and your great comment, I do really appreciate it!

SOLARLIFE
good stuff:

Paschen, I like this story. It's good stuff. It's a shame that Niger has all this poor people, but Uranium mines with no income to the population. On plus the toxic waste, the mining and the destruction of nuclear plants produce more CO2 than a coal fired plant with filter. But it sounds so easy don't change your light bulbs for eco bulbs, fire the world up with uncontrolled Uranium fights. Microsoft Enzyclopedia tells us that we run out of Uranium earlier than petrol. The fear is to change to de-central renewable power like Internet; we can all make a living, power to the people, it works.

Paschen

How very true SOLARLIFE, most however do not know this about the CO2 output of Nuclear power station! I do agree with your comment here full heardetlly! Thank you for the input and flag here your support is very appreciated and I hope that many will read all this and at least think about it, better yet call their covernment up and demand for this to stop! Thank you Very much!

Paschen, I like this story. It's good stuff.

Good to see the plight of the Tuaregs highlighted. Australia's indigenous  peoples do receive some financial compensation for some of the mining. But I seriously doubt that it, or the process to reach an agreement to mine an area, were/are fair.

Did you know that Australia has a uranium mine inside the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park?

Paschen

Thank you for the flag here and your comment! I believe you are correct in what you are saying here about the Tuaregs and the Indigenous People of Australia! Thank you for the link, I hope every one will take a look at it! I appreciate the input a lot, thank you!

everchanging
good stuff:

Paschen, I like this story. It's good stuff. Once upon a time - In a court of law in the U.S. the cost of a human life can not be put with a price tag attached. Sadly this is not the case any more for the U.S. even in a courts of law, most state have or are placing limit restrictions on damages paid including loss of life. Is it not the U.S. and other countries who are willing to look away from the carnage of blood brought forth by their needs and desire to be and remain in power by what ever means possible. Well now any human is considered useless to these government if you are a minority, politically opposed, protester or or even just out spoken against them for the means in which they control politics and people. If the governments want and need something and if people rise up to protect or protests against it, well the human can be replaced (via death) with someone who will abide and follow orders. Todays humans and there life's value has been replaced by the value of minerals be it oil, Uranium or whatever - it is now worth more then a humans breath.

Something wrong with this principle and aspect of government especially when the citizen are being killed and the world governments and there citizen under these governments are no longer willing to fight for their rights to draw a breath to fight another day against any human where ever the actions and transgression take place in this world. What they fail to realize, is that fight be them in words or otherwise will only be harder to gain the upper hand, when they pull the blindfolds off and face the facts.

Human value is and will always be worth more then a material that can be replaced, if we are willing to change and look in a new direction with new ways and means to survive this everchanging world and times. There is and will always be a way other then bloodshed, we just need (as a species) the willingness to find it.

How very true and sad it is what you are saying here!

Great News

soyaknow

Cameco corporation, located in Saskatoon Saskatchwan Canada,  is the worlds largest producer on uranium. You may want to recheck your information regarding producers of uranium.

Paschen

You may want to learn to read! Not Verified! Niger is with Australia the largest exporter of raw Uranium!

Rhonda J Mangus

Paschen, "Niger is the world's third largest exporter of Uranium after Canada and Australia..." See http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3065165.stm Also, "Uranium Mining in Niger; Status and Perspectives of a Top Five Producing Country" here http://www.world-nuclear.org/sym/2004/souley.htm

Paschen

Thank you Rhonda, that news escaped me since Le Monde reported them as second Largest! I appreciate the input here! Still think that Anonymous and not identified is somewhat shallow! It is in a way like a crank call in the middle of the night!

Even if they moved to third Largest place, still the issue is the Tuaregs and the impact the Uranium has on a world energy Market! Is Iraq not the third largest exporter of Oil? Could be wrong on that one!

I'll look into it again and amend it!

Rhonda J Mangus

Paschen, you are welcome. I can not comment on whether or not LeMonde reported them as second largest since a link to the article is not provided.  However, I managed to locate a fairly recent, and very interesting, article on the Tuareg Insurgents, here: http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L0941273.htm  There is a difference between reserves and exports. It seems Iraq has the third largest proven reserves. See: http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/Iraq/Background.htm

PS I checked to make sure the links are established and the pages are removed - I will have to relocate them - thanks for your patience.

Paschen

Thank you Rhonda, I appreciate It!

Rhonda J Mangus

Paschen, a mystery! I can't locate the pages via the links I provided. Nevertheless, another link to a story on the Tuareg Rebels here: http://www.mineweb.com/mineweb/view/mineweb/en/page38?oid=55176&sn=Detail

And, a general link to the EIA, here: http://www.eia.doe.gov

Let's hope they have linked successfully!

Paschen

Sorry Rhonda, it does not seem to work either! Thank you for the input though!
