The U.S. Army is investigation allegations that eight male soldiers took photographs and video "of as many as 21 female soldiers in their unit showering at Fort Dix".

The criminal investigation pertains to events alleged to have occurred in fall 2008 amongst the the 266th Military Police Company of the Virginia Army National Guard.

The 266th is currently serving in Basra.

The photos were allegedly taken last fall, before the 266th Military Police Company of the Virginia Army National Guard shipped out to Iraq in December.

Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said Friday the Army is conducting a criminal investigation and that no charges have been filed.

Fort Dix spokeswoman Carolee Nisbet says the allegations are disappointing. She said most soldiers who train at the New Jersey installation before being deployed "live up to the Army values."

What is revealed is just a tip of an iceberg. All the militaries in the world have their own dark side. Recently, there was a scandal in Pakistan Police Force regarding forced prostitution

I have been into army too, Pakistan Army, and such cheap acts are never expected out of a soldier. Also, leaving the military norms aside, everyone must learn to respect others' privacy like that of his own... As far as I know, right to privacy is fundamental to UK law and the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan... I'm sure that it's fundamental to other countries' constitutions too.

By the way, thanks for sharing, Jarrett.

Isn.t it amazing that this is another Military Police Company out of control.  Abu Ghraib was the other one.

I do take this seriously as I have a female MPhat was one of the soldiersthat was taped. So unless you have family involved you have no clue what is going on wit these females.I just hope that the military does the honrable thing and punish the male soldiers involved to the fullest extent of the law.

Being a NCO from this unit , I am  filled with a sense of shame that individuals Who call themselves MP s would act with such below standard conduct. And fail to understand how such actions got pass the Command.  This type of action is not the news that a proud member of the MP Corps wishes to read, hear, or have calls from junior soldiers about.  And with the amount of time that this transgression had to wait, till a father of one of the females, brought proper notice to this incident?  Who in the unit was covering? Why was it not brought to the notice of the proper personel prior to now?

not fair

First off this situation is not fair to the female mp's in this unit to have this crime committed against them or to the mp's and their families who are being punished. Even though they had nothing to do with the situation it is an absolute shame the way this was handled it is causing an already horrible situation to become a nightmare in addition to being deployed for a year away from loved ones in a war zone now over 150 men and women are being punished for the actions a a few no it was not right for those males to do this they could be punished not the soldiers who had nothing to do with it and their families

Dont take everything you hear from the news literally. Lots of claims are made, and the soldiers here in Iraq take our standards very seriously. As with any large organization, be it military, religious institution, or private group there will always be a few bad people who bring discredit to the greater whole. Not nearly that many MP's are behaving like this.

My son is in the 266th MP Co in Basra.  This is truly a "SHAME" and few bad apples do affect the whole bunch.  These soldiers are now not allowed to the job they all trained for such a long time.  For the females involved this is not trivial.  The soldiers who are involved will be addressed in the appropriate manner after the investigation is completed.  By the way my son is not one of the eight.

It is sad that your soldier was taped. I also think the soldiers involved should be punished, but I don't think the whole unit and family members should be punished as they are being.

ok lets get to it.  my sister is with that unit and let me tell you one thing.  first, i am a soldier as well.  we are all military and we should all be brothers and sisters in this organization.  what would you do or say if that was you sister getting taped?  are you one doing the taping?  better not be...

Mother of the 266

As one of the females photographed and filmed I am extremely upset. What is done is done , and the past cannot be changed. What upsets me the most is a small group of females in this unit that are just whining and complaining way too much. They even persisted enough to get 4 soldiers kicked out of the unit, and reassigned to a different unit that had absolutly nothing to do with these hainous crimes. These four were even cleared by CID and told in no way are they involved in the investigation, merely that they were bieng removed from the unit because these bitches are uncomfortable around them.

Our son wasn't involved in this. We are being punished as well as he is being punished. It upsets me greatly that our military punishes innocent people. Very scarey!!!!

It saddens me alot that this kind of thing happens while there are bigger things on the militarys mind.  However we must remeber that this is not just a Military Police issue.  Its not just MP soldiers that are doing crazy unlawfull things.  Its hard to see somtimes from the outside looking it but as MPs in a law enforcement enviorment we tend to take the appropriate action when properly notified unlike other units in the military which tend to handle things in house.  Not saying that other soldiers go unpunished but saying that its less likely that if an infintry soldier were to get a DUI that they would be plastered on the news and on the blotter. Theres an old saying in the MP world "MPs eat there own."  This is because we know that it will be a black eye on our corp but it is up to the rest of us to uphold the standard regardless of the crimes of a select few and the outcome of the offenses.

I can only hope that this will effect the "Knee Jerk" Army like everything else and we will negate anything like this from happening again.

ok ma'am here is the deal.  if your son is innocent, then he should not be messed with period.  if he is part of it, then he will get dealt with.  the good and or bad thing is that with anyone, if you do not want the heat on you, what will you do?  try to put it on someone else.  sorry to say, but either he is trying to hang with the cool group, or someone put his name out there.  we in the military will not mess with anyone that is not involved with something.

to say the least, of my self  being a member of the 266th mp co, it is not all soldiers in the unit in which created such destruction, the unit itself is actually a very highspeed group of individuals, who every day try with every ounce of energy to stay in the fight and stay motivated.  yes the unit has had a few bad apples, but that problem has been properly taken care of. needless to say i just hope all of you see where im coming from being a member of the company   and hope that you dont see every soldier the same way. those of us with nothing involved were just as disgusted as the next guy, these are our brothers and sisters, and the only family we have while we are deployed.

 Thanks

My concern now for the 266th remission.  That this distraction does not get some hurt or killed.  your new mission will require more concentration.  Please STAY ALERT!!! IT only takes one idiot (Terrorist/Insurgent) to ruin whole life.  God Bless.  Say Hi to Sean for me.  Spoke to him yesterday.  Father's day was great because of his phone call.  The best gift of the day.  I am proud of the 266th.  Keep up the good work.

Ok another soldier I guess you didn't understand what you read on my post. Our son WASN'T involved and yes he as well as other innocent soldiers were punished, as well as their families. Family communication was cut back. We wait to hear from our loved ones so we know they are doing ok. We hear nothing for longer periods. That is family punishment. Our soldiers had to move and be humiliated by verbal bullcrap. That is punishment for our soldiers. Please understand I am a soldier mom and I do know a little.

As a soldier in this Company, I have to disagree with jwest. There are many soldiers in the Company that are good but, I have become very dicouraged with the MP's. I have always wanted to be an MP but, found out that there are alot of immature children and it seems as if they are the rif raf of other MOS's. I upheld personnel integrity and was serverly punished for it. This Company has been plaqued since it's start and the numerous investigations(Ft Dix excluded) only goes to show the bias decisions being made, lack of command, no soldier care, personal gaines and stupidity that has ruined this company. I for one am ashamed. It seems as if you can put a LT in your pocket like someone has, you can do anything you want and all will disappear

nauseated

I, as a military spouse for 16 years is nauseous beyond belief. I not only cannot understand this kind of behavior but I also do my homework. There is no way you can tell me that the Command had NO idea and it took 6-7 months for this to come out. There is so much crap hiding under their carpet I am surprised they haven't tripped every morning walking into their office. When you hide stuff like this you become worse than the culprits. They should all see time and lose thier ranks!!!! Wonder what their back up plan is?

If your spouse has been in the military for 16 years that should make him someone of higher rank within the copmany?  All that you say about the command seems to me your husband should have been one of those who was with the Soldiers and should have been able to prevent this.

I never said he was in THIS company or even the ARMY.  And if you read about this and saw the news then you would know that the whole world was told. It has become National news.
