A US military Black Hawk helicopter has crashed in Germany killing at least two.

The aircraft went down in woods near the A67 highway between Viernheim and Lorsch in the West, south of Frankfurt.

At this time it is not clear what had caused the crash and a U.S. Army Europe spokesman could not say where the helicopter was flying to or from.

Some media websites are linking it to heavy snowfall in the last day or two may have been a factor.

A U.S. military helicopter crashed in western Germany Wednesday, killing two people, German police said. The military did not immediately confirm the casualties.

Police said a third person was missing.

The aircraft went down about 6:20 p.m. (1720GMT) Wednesday in woods near the A67 highway between Viernheim and Lorsch, south of Frankfurt, Hesse state police said.

The helicopter was a UH-60 Black Hawk, said Bruce Anderson, a spokesman for U.S. Army Europe.

More bad news, showing flying is still a risk.

That is a very densely populated area. Not a good place for the military to be at any time. The US Has crushed a few of those helicopters in the past, it maybe they should retire them and start buying European or Asian Helicopter that have a better record.

they are very reliable, and there are lots of factors to take in consideration besidesreliability, but something like this happens and everyone feels as if they are subject matter experts, have you noticed that?....
