The U.S Border Crossing has been closed at the San Diego point due to a shootout where four people have been injured.

There were three vans carrying more than 70 people involved in the incident, and they were attempting to smuggle illegal immigrants from Mexico. Those people are now in custody.

Details are quite sparse, but it is thought at this time, that the vans tried to storm pasts the inspectors at the San Ysidro entry point and they tried to cross without stopping.

"It was human smuggling, definitely," said Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Three of the injured were in vans, but one was in another vehicle. It is not known how serious the injuries are. Shots rang out over nine lanes of traffic. This is a point of entry for 40,000 vehicles each day.
