Romania backs US anti-missile plan

Russian newsservices are buzzing with the news of plans by the US to deploy missiles in Romania.  Defensive missiles are to be placed in Romania by 2015.  .
Word from the US is that the missiles to be placed in Romania are to be purely defensive weapons in case of an air strike from Iran.

"The U.S. has determined that Romania is well-suited for the location of this system to provide protection for European NATO Allies," the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest said in a statement.
Romania was prepared to provide its territory for the missile defense system several years ago. In 2005, Romania was mentioned as a location for CIA’s secret prisons. President Basescu did not feel shy to call the United States Romania’s main strategic partner.

Media coverage in Russia of this announcement is widespread and much given to speculation as to the motives of the Obama administration.
Russian authorities today announced their military defense update which includes retaining the right to use pre-emptive nuclear weapons.

This must be part of the same plan as Poland with Patriot missiles.  I bet the Russians are not amused.

The Russians have never given up the right to "pre-emptive" use of nukes. It makes it sound all scary, but nothing has changed in that regard.

This is a great mistake and will back fire for the US.

Did it backfire when they got stationed in Japan?
